A few weeks ago, I attended the Inclusion Summit at the Emmys / Television Academy , an experience that reinforced something I’ve believed in for a long time: representation is not a trend, it’s a responsibility.
✨
After reading about the Academy’s new Affinity Groups program, I applied. I wanted to support spaces that lift up diverse voices across our industry, not only based on country of origin or age, but also disability, LGBTQ+ identity, parents and primary caregivers, veterans, women, and more.
✨
My commitment to community work has been consistent, in parallel with my professional work in media, throughout the years. Through volunteer efforts on both coasts, I’ve always been inclined toward advocacy, inclusion, and access. I’m especially proud of my insistence on supporting and celebrating my Latinidad community this year, and of standing with all communities working toward equity and visibility.
✨
As I said at the event, “divide and conquer” has only proven destructive to communities and countries, we should aim for “stronger together.”
✨
As we all know, these DEI efforts are facing real pressure right now. That makes it even more important to keep showing up together, with intention, courage, and, especially, integrity.
✨
Looking forward to seeing how this program grows. The country and the world need it.
