What better way to celebrate this month's theme of COMMUNITY then by having the leaders of COMMUNITY Improv Stephen Gilikin and Wendy Natividad (aka Power Sauce) take over Rogue this Monday?! Pumped to have two fantastic people, improvisers, and instructors spend a Monday with us fresh off performing and teaching at The Royal Improv Festival in Charlotte! Here's what's up for Monday, July 13th at The Clinic in Mar Vista:

6-7PM ARTIVISM - FOCUS: DISABILITY
Artivism = Art-Based Activism. Join us for a pre-Drop-In Class workshop on how to incorporate the social (not necessarily political, but sometimes there's overlap) issues surrounding DISABILITY in your improv or any artistic expression. Afterall, it's Disability Pride Month - which commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990. Let's spread awareness about disability through writing, storytelling, and improv. All are welcome! Let's create art that makes a difference.
7-10PM DROP-IN IMPROV CLASS WITH POWER SAUCE
Improv duo Power Sauce will be leading a Drop-In Improv Class focused on the theme of COMMUNITY. If the class gets too large, we'll split it up so everyone can get in more reps. Bring a friend!
ABOUT THE TEACHERS - As a duo both on- and off-stage, Power Sauce (Stephen Gillikin & Wendy Natividad) delights audiences with the fun-filled freefall of two-person long form improv. Evoking boundless backdrops and a cavalcade of characters, they have performed at festivals in LA, NYC, and the Philippines. Stephen is an actor, writer, and teaching artist. Wendy is a producer, writer, and creative laborer. Together, they are also the organizers of Community Improv, which offers accessible and affordable workshops, jams, and shows where players can build skills to apply off-stage for enriching the rest of one's life and community. LOVE YOUR COMMUNITY AT ROGUE:
1. SUPPORT YOURSELF: Unplug for the evening, be present! If you need to use your phone, please go outside to use it. Your teacher and classmates will appreciate your focused support and commitment.
2. SUPPORT OTHERS: Please do not invade another's personal space by touching them (i.e. hugs, picking them up, jumping on their back, etc.). Everyone may have different boundaries, but in an open class with a mix of acquaintances and strangers, it's safest to just not go there.
3. SUPPORTIVE CONTENT: Be aware of the content of your scenes. Anything racist, sexist, ageist, culturally insensitive, or out-of-bounds/cringe-worthy is not allowed. Duh right? It needs to be said. Things to avoid: Stereotyping - especially based on gender, ethnicity, or age (just because you're in a scene with someone you perceive as older than you doesn't mean you have to label them a grandparent- or parent for that matter); playing caractitures of people groups you do not personally represent (this includes accents); and talking over anyone, especially women.
These rules are here so everyone can feel safe and taken care of. We want you to be able to express your creativity freely! Let's be better improvisers, teammates, and humans!
July Theme: COMMUNITY. How can we explore and expand our sense of community in scenes, characters, stories, and artivism? Let's connect with one another and appreciate the messines and love we feel while navigating our role within a group of people as well as learning how to best support one another this month!

July's Challenge: Invest in your communities! You can't make time, but you can take time, prioritize your time, and schedule time to make the communities you believe in stronger. The communities you connect with need you! GO ROGUE by being a giver/gifter first, a taker fourth or fifth. Gift someone your attention, your ability to help, your presence. "What do I get out of it?" is an honest question. Answer it. Sometimes your answer is simple and not to be overlooked: Companionship, friendship, connection, support. That's right, you might not get any money or prestige or a career boost by being an active member of a community, but you'll probably receive something better: laughter, stories, purpose, fuel to keep going, love, joy...life. These are what sustain you. These are what will make you want to get out of bed everyday. These are what will lead to a healthy, well-rounded life. Try it. Be a gifter (not a grifter...) this month.
