✨ What a night. What a community. What a way to light the way. ✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us for TYA Lighting The Way, an evening celebrating the extraordinary people who believe that young audiences deserve extraordinary theatre.

We were incredibly proud to present the 2026 Theatre for Young Audiences Visionary Award to Michelle Kozlak , honoring a career devoted to championing artists, creating opportunities, developing new work, and ensuring that children have access to meaningful theatrical experiences.

And looking around the room that evening, we were reminded of something important: the future of Theatre for Young Audiences is something we build together.

Artists. Educators. Families. Donors. Arts leaders. Young people. Friends who have been with Adventure Theatre MTC for decades—and those just beginning their adventure with us.

Your support allows organizations like Adventure Theatre MTC to employ artists, nurture new work, educate young performers, welcome thousands of children into the theatre, and keep TYA thriving for the next generation.

And what better way to celebrate its future than by opening a brand-new work of Theatre for Young Audiences? The evening continued with the official opening of the world premiere of Beatrice Likes the Dark. 🌙✨

To Michelle: thank you for lighting the way.

And to everyone who joined us, supported us, celebrated with us, and believes in this work: thank you for helping us carry that light forward as Adventure Theatre MTC begins its next 75 years. 💜

✨ Why does TYA Lighting The Way matter?

Adventure Theatre MTC Artistic Director Kurt Boehm shares why next Friday’s celebration is about so much more than one special evening.

At a moment when Theatre for Young Audiences is very much in the national conversation, we have an opportunity to show up for the people who have dedicated their careers to creating extraordinary theatre for young people.

On Friday, October 2, we’ll honor Michelle Kozlak, former Producing Director of Theater for Young Audiences at The Kennedy Center, with the TYA Visionary Award—celebrating her remarkable career and her commitment to generations of young audiences and artists.

And you can be part of it.

Come celebrate Michelle. Support the artists who make TYA possible. Support Adventure Theatre MTC as we begin our next 75 years.

The evening also marks the official opening of the world premiere of Beatrice Likes the Dark—making it a celebration not only of TYA’s extraordinary legacy, but of its future.
