Symphony of the Potomac Joel Lazar, Music Director Share our passion for music! Contribute to the Symphony of the Potomac or come join us as a musician.

The Symphony of the Potomac is a long-established multigenerational community of musicians who give their time and talent for the entertainment, education, and cultural enrichment of Montgomery County and the greater Washington, D.C., area. Members of our orchestra have been performing together as an ensemble in Montgomery County for almost 40 years - both with the SOTP and previously within the J

CC Symphony Orchestra. For more than 20 years we have had the pleasure of working under the leadership and the baton of Joel Lazar, one of the DC Metro area's most respected conductors. We provide an opportunity for local volunteer musicians, including select high school students, to play orchestral masterworks with great locally based soloists - while giving you the chance to hear wonderful music in your own backyard! Enjoy music that you will love, played by musicians whom you know.

🌙 Manuel de Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain was composed between 1909 and 1915 and premiered in Madrid in 1916. Rather than a traditional piano concerto, Falla called the work “symphonic impressions” for piano and orchestra. Written by the Andalusian composer as an evocation of the region’s Hispano-Arabic past and the cultural legacy of Al-Andalus, the piece conjures the atmosphere of southern Spain through three nocturnal musical landscapes, including the Generalife and the gardens of the Sierra de Córdoba. 🇪🇸
