Tim's Home Workshop

Tim's Home Workshop My workshop is my retreat where I get to make things for family and friends.

The siding and trim for the workshop is almost finished. It’s really starting to look like it’s part of the building.

My long delayed workshop addition finally has walls! By the end of the week, I hope there will be a roof, windows, and doors. After that, the electrician and HVAC guy will do their thing.

I've finally gotten around to finishing assembly of an Arts and Crafts style table I started a couple of years ago. It will go to my mom's apartment as a sofa table.

The piece is made primarily from quartersawn White Oak.

Other comments on the piece are in the photo captions.

I'll post updates as I make progress.

My clamp-on router table fits well in the new Moxon vise on my workbench. I'm proud of my homemade table. It certainly saves space in my very small shop. In photo 2 you can see that I conveniently store my collet wrench underneath using a couple of rare earth magnets.

Today was "shop improvement day" here. Some might suggest I start by cleaning the workbench, but I had a better, or at least more interesting, idea. I was very happy with the Moxon-style vise I have on my benchtop bench and decided I wanted one on my fixed bench so I could more easily clamp my router table in place. Here's how I went about doing so. Comments are provided with each photo.

I don't like to waste anything, so when possible, I will take items I made for practice and try to make them look nice, or at least turn them into something I can use. The two boxes in the first picture were made from scrap pieces of pine I used to test my Keller-style dovetail jig for both practice and to dial-in the jig's settings for another project. More comments on the steps taken are in the captions of each photo.

I'm working at the booth for the Annapolis Woodworkers Guild for a couple of hours today. I have a small cabinet and some of my boxes on display.

Because I'm a veteran, I got to turn this patriotic pen on the lathe and assemble it. It's made from Rosewood.
