Plein Air Painting with the Masters Series - Porter
Tuesday, July 21

The 3rd installment of Hank Feeley's Painting with the Masters series: Fairfield Porter.

Imagine if history’s greatest landscape painters had the opportunity to paint in Sleeping Bear country, “The Most Beautiful Place In America.” This is a class to not only learn the techniques of plein air painting but also to learn about the methods of history’s great landscape painters. Each class will start off with a brief illustrated presentation, then students will seek to incorporate ideas learned into their own paintings. The instructor will give frequent demonstrations and provide close personal attention to each student.

Sgraffito Plate Workshop (adults)
with Ana Spencer

Imagine a beautiful centerpiece on your dining table, made by ... YOU!

In this class, each student will create a plate, decorated with the sgraffito technique. Sgraffito, which originates from the Italian word for scratch, is used in ceramics to create a decorative design on ceramic work. A layer of color underglaze is added to the piece, and simple carving tools are used to scratch through the color to the contrasting clay body below to allow the pattern to stand out. Each student will use a mold to create a plate or platter. While the work is drying, students will be shown examples to help inspire creativity. Feel free to bring images or patterns from home that inspire you!
