American Sports Entertainment Company Acquires Richmond Ice Zone and SkateNation Plus
Two longtime Richmond ice rinks and entertainment destinations enter a new chapter
American Sports Entertainment Company (ASEC), a national owner and operator of ice rinks and sports facilities, has acquired Richmond Ice Zone and SkateNation Plus.
The acquisition brings the two Richmond-area facilities into ASEC’s network following more than 25 years of ownership and operation by Brad Robinson. The facilities have introduced generations of families to youth and adult hockey, figure skating, learn-to-skate programs, public skating, curling, and special events.
“Being part of this community for more than 25 years has been an incredible privilege,” said Robinson. “What I’ll remember most are the people: the employees and coaches who put so much into these rinks, the families who have been with us for so many years, and the players and skaters we have watched grow up in our programs and return with their kids. Finding an experienced and respected operator like ASEC that understands what these facilities mean to the community was important to me. ASEC will bring significant resources and expertise to reinvest in the facilities and programs, helping grow participation for the next 25 years.”
ASEC owns and manages 30 premier sports facilities and focuses on developing new figure skaters and hockey players through its award-winning learn-to-skate and learn-to-play programs.
“Richmond Ice Zone and SkateNation Plus have built a strong figure skating and hockey community,” said Michael Baxter, ASEC’s Executive Vice President. “We’re excited to work with the local team to implement our best-in-class operating policies and procedures to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of both facilities.”
“To everyone who has been part of these rinks, thank you,” Robinson added. “Danielle and I, along with our entire family, are grateful for your support, your friendships, and the memories we’ve shared over more than 25 years. We look forward to seeing the Richmond skating and hockey community continue to grow and thrive at these facilities.”
