We were at the pool when it started to rain today much earlier than expected š§ļø
Most immediately looked for shelter.
My son did the opposite.
He stood there with his arms stretched toward the sky, soaking it all in.
It struck me how naturally children experience joy.
They donāt wait until everything is perfect.
They donāt think, āIāll enjoy myself once I finish my to-do list.ā
They simply notice whatās right in front of them.
Somewhere along the way, many of us learn to postpone joy.
We tell ourselves weāll enjoy life when work slows downā¦
when the house is cleanā¦
when the kids are olderā¦
when life feels less overwhelming.
Children remind us that joy isnāt found in extraordinary moments.
Itās created by being fully present in ordinary ones.
Iāve been embracing the idea that our kids arenāt here only for us to teach them.
But theyāre here to remind us how to live and grow into our next best version of ourselves.
ā¤ļø Choosing to notice the ordinary moments instead of waiting for extraordinary ones. ā¤ļø
⨠Joy isnāt waiting for us at the finish line ⦠Itās been scattered along our path the whole time.
Whatās one little thing that has brought you joy lately?
