This week on The Lowdown Hoedown, we’ll put the spotlight on Eric Clapton’s 1994 Blues Tour, supporting the influential “From The Cradle” album.

Eric Clapton’s legendary 1994 "Nothing But the Blues" Tour (also famously supporting his multi-platinum, all-blues studio album From the Cradle) ran from October 3 to November 28, 1994. The historic North American trek was entirely dedicated to traditional electric and acoustic blues standards, with Clapton and his band playing no solo rock hits or pop material.

We’ll be playing tracks from the September 1994 rehearsals in New York City and November 1994 performances from the Fillmore in San Francisco.

Clapton assembled an elite, heavy-hitting backing group to deliver raw, authentic blues dynamics night after night:

William Rory Gallagher (March 2, 1948 – June 14, 1995) was a virtuosic Irish blues-rock guitarist, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Widely celebrated as "Ireland's first rock star" and the "people's guitarist," he sold over 30 million records worldwide and played more than 2,000 legendary, high-energy live concerts. He is famously associated with his heavily road-worn 1961 Sunburst Fender Stratocaster, which became a defining symbol of his raw, unadorned, working-class approach to rock and blues.

Hey gang, hope everyone’s having a wonderful Fall. I’ve got a few days off from traveling, I’m busy doing my 2025 taxes. Yep, the extension runs out Oct. 15th, gotta get ‘er done!

I’m really looking forward to tonight’s radio show and visiting with my old friend Kyle Frederick. Kyle will join me in the studio to perform a couple times with the talented Ian Lovelace and play tracks from his new album, ‘The Force Majure.’

Frederick’s eight studio album, The Force Majeure was recorded at Cash Cabin, the studio built by icon Johnny Cash in 1979. The project focuses on the confounding moral realities of our time, and features guest performances by Michael Webb, Jenee Fleenor, Odessa Settles, Jonell Mosser, Ashley Cleveland, Heidi Gluck and a feature vocal performance by Sandra McCracken. The album is the first of Frederick’s catalog to be available on vinyl.

Our artist spotlight this week is Robin Trower and his first two iconic releases, ‘Twice Removed From Yesterday’ (1973) and ‘Bridge Of Sighs’ (1974).

Robin Trower is an influential English rock guitarist, songwriter, and producer who initially rose to fame in the late 1960s with the progressive rock band Procol Harum. Renowned for his atmospheric, blues-infused style, his expressive Fender Stratocaster work often draws comparison to Jimi Hendrix. Trower achieved massive commercial and critical heights after launching his own power trio, the Robin Trower Band, in the 1970s

This week on The Lowdown Hoedown, we put the Blues spotlight on one my favorite artists, Mr. Kim Wilson. We’ll play tracks from Kim’s 2025 release, “Slow Burn.”

“Slow Burn” is a traditional blues album by The Fabulous Thunderbirds frontman Kim Wilson, released on November 21, 2025, through M.C. Records.

Kim Wilson is an acclaimed American blues singer and harmonica virtuoso. He is best recognized as the co-founder, lead vocalist, and charismatic frontman of the Texas blues-rock band The Fabulous Thunderbirds, steering them through their 1980s commercial peaks with hits like "Tuff Enuff" and "Wrap It Up". Celebrated for a powerful harmonica style often described as sounding like a full horn section, Wilson remains a relentless touring artist and an authoritative historian of traditional blues music.

The band was founded by the legendary guitarist and songwriter Rory Gallagher. They became highly respected for their raw, dynamic performances, blending elements of blues, rock, and jazz.
