I was so excited to see a lot of returning students and meet many of my new students yesterday at Sunnyslope! I’m so lucky to be part of such and incredible program that gives me the opportunity to teach 238 young creative minds. Not including the other programs I get to work with. So so excited to see what this year brings 😊 I’m seriously blown away at what they have already done with their first projects. Next up, my favorite, CREATING WITH CLAY!!!

Ahhh been out of the loop for a bit friends. Here’s what I’ve been up to during my adventures in school. Well for the first project anyhow. I know it’s a lot of photos, but you can see the exciting process from start to finish. This was done in my Cultural History of Ceramics class which is absolutely fascinating. My instructor Max is incredible and I am truly enjoying every minute of it. The project was creating a personal mask. We learned about African masks and the rituals behind them. We then had to to create our own. The story behind mine is that this is a mask for a woman to take with her when she is going into labor. The main face is meant to represent the woman in labor and the tree like figure on the side is meant to represent a pregnant Mother Nature wrapping her essence around that mother to protect her and her child while giving her strength to get through the difficult task of labor. It’s drawn from the feeling I had when I lost my son Eric shortly after he was born 5 years ago. I have had that Mother Nature image in my head and drawn her a few times in various ways over the last few years. It was really exciting to see her come to life and I definitely want to now do a series of her. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! 😊

Holy moly Batman! I took me from last Saturday to 7:45pm tonight to hang over 700 student artwork, plus over 100 Fine Art entries in the San Benito County Fair. Some one give me a pillow with a cozy blanket and wake me up sometime next week please and thank you! I could not have done it without my two big girls and their friend Austin. My oldest daughter Rylie, who is my Co-Chair and my third daughter, her BFF since first grade, Jada! Those teenagers were incredible and I’d be lost without them!! Thank you doesn’t even begin to cover how grateful I am for all their hard work. Now time to enjoy the fair!
