Savannah Longenbach received a Commercial Building Award for Savvy's Downtown Sweets / Porcella's, 7357 Monterey Street, Gilroy.
Porcella's has been a fixture in downtown Gilroy since Charles Porcella fully purchased the building from its original owner, H.L. McDuffie in 1908. Dating from roughly 1880, this outstanding example of brick commercial construction retains most, if not all, of its original design characteristics. The building has led several "lives" as a: saloon, grocery, bakery, clothing, and music store. Ms. Longenbach has reimagined the signage, awning, exterior furniture, and interior to be a 1950s-style ice cream parlor, sweet shop, and soda fountain. The interior has been remodeled to include an imported, mirrored Italian bar, mosaic tiles and an original, 45 RPM jukebox. The business and building are a wonderful addition to a revitalized and growing downtown Gilroy business scene

Illegal Fireworks Are More Than Just Illegal — They’re Dangerous.

Every year, illegal fireworks cause serious harm—turning moments of celebration into tragedy. Let’s work together to protect our families, neighbors, and community this 4th of July.

The Hidden Costs of Illegal Fireworks: Injuries and even loss of life

🔴 Home and wildland fires

🔴 Breathing issues for vulnerable individuals

🔴 Panic and fear for children and adults alike

🔴 PTSD triggers for military veterans

🔴 Extreme distress for pets and animals

🔴 Sleep disruption for entire neighborhoods

These fireworks are illegal across California:

🚫 Cherry Bombs

🚫 Bottle Rockets

🚫 Roman Candles

🚫 M-80s

🚫 Firecrackers

🚫 Any aerial or explosive pyrotechnics

In Gilroy, enforcement is serious, and consequences are steep:

💸 Fines starting at $1,000 (and $2,000 for future violations—tracked year to year)

🚨 Criminal citations may apply

🏠 Citations can be issued to the individual and/or the property owner or renter

📍 Citations may also be issued for fireworks used on public streets

👁️ Drones will be used to help identify and cite offending properties

Let’s keep the 4th joyful and safe for everyone. Don’t let one bad decision ruin the holiday—for you, your loved ones, or your community.
