Senior Spotlight! Senior dancer, Sarah, is a member of our Competitive Company and has been an important part of our Starstruck Dance family for 15 years! She will be attending Elon University next year and plans on pursuing a degree in Nursing with a minor in Biology. Sarah shared one of her favorite memories over her time at SDNJ. She said, “One of my favorite memories at Starstruck was when we went to visit the new studio while it was still being built. It felt so surreal to see how big it was and I was so grateful to witness this huge milestone for our studio.“
Sarah shares some wisdom and reflection with the younger dancers in our program. Sarah said, “Some advice I would give to younger dancers or my younger self would be to not take any moment for granted. Time flies so fast and the special bond everyone creates at the studio makes it so painful to leave. Enjoy every moment dancing and growing because it won’t last forever.”
Sarah also shared how her time at SDNJ has positively shaped her life. She said, “Dancing at Starstruck has taught me that I am capable of anything I set my mind to. I have learned to be confident in myself and push myself to my fullest potential. I learned the importance of working cohesively with my team to perform our best. All of these skills will benefit me in my future career and adventures. The positive environment at Starstruck motivates everyone to work their hardest at everything they do. I am grateful to have been a part of such a loving and caring studio that allowed us to become a family.”
Sarah- Your determination, positive attitude, and dependability will be so missed next season. We are so proud of you, and can’t wait to see all you continue to achieve in the future. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. Shine bright, always.
What a day, what a night ✨💜
Senior Spotlight! Senior dancer, Elina, has been an important part of our Starstruck Dance family for over 10 years! She will be attending Tulane University and plans on majoring in Mathematics. One of Elina’s favorite dance memories from Starstruck took place at Nationals in Virginia Beach. She said, “Not only did my team and I participate in the higher-level competition, but also I enjoyed the beautiful beaches and water parks with my family and teammates. The highlight of that week was that I learned a group dance in less than 2 hours and performed it on the stage!”
Elina shared how dance has positively shaped her life during her time at SDNJ and some advice for the younger dancers in our program. Elina said, “Dancing is a wonderful way to let go and just be myself. If I just flow with the rhythm of the music, I find it inspiring and relaxing. I apply the experience and lessons I learned from dance to my life, be myself, relax, and enjoy.” She would like to tell our younger dancers, “Follow your heart, and work hard on the things you love. Be a team player, help your teammates, and be helped.”
Elina also shared some important lessons that she learned over her time at SDNJ. She said, “I am so thankful to Starstruck for providing me with many opportunities from competitive dances to recreational dances. With your support, I have learned many valuable lessons through dance – get out of my comfort zone, be disciplined, and be collaborative, which make me realize that ‘The positive energy and enjoyment of moving to the music is a gift to the soul.’”
Elina- It has been such a pleasure watching you grow over the many years in our program. We are so proud of you, and can’t wait to see all you continue to achieve in the future. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. Shine bright, always.
Senior Spotlight! Senior dancer, Kelly, is a studio intern, a member of our Competitive Company, and has been an integral part of our Starstruck Dance family for over 10 years! She will be attending Marist College next year and plans on pursuing a degree in Secondary Education with a minor in Fashion Merchandising. She will be spending her Freshman year abroad in Florence, Italy and plans to continue dancing in Italy and in college. Kelly shared that some of her favorite memories over her time at SDNJ have taken place at Nationals. She said, “Not only is performing the best feeling in the entire world, but some of my most cherished memories were captured during the uninterrupted time spent with my best friends and teachers. There is nothing quite like boardwalk adventures and hours spent reminiscing about our past antics. Being with these people never gets old, and I'm going to miss them more than anything.“
Kelly shared how dance has positively shaped her life along with wonderful advice for our younger dancers. She said, “One of the most important lessons I've learned from dance is time management and discipline. As I head into the beginning stages of adulthood where I will have ample unstructured time, the organization and time management skills that I've curated over these past sixteen years will serve me well. Additionally, having been brought up in a place where we were taught respect and attentiveness, these qualities are sure to help me both academically and occupationally moving forward. As busy as life gets, being organized and knowing what to value is critical!”
Kelly hopes that the younger dancers will “Enjoy every last second! Time moves incredibly quickly so don't take anything for granted. The studio has been a safe haven for me and every time I enter those doors I feel immediate relief. Dance is therapy, and these people are family, so don't lose sight of the fact that it's not always going to be right in front of you. Take the time to get to know your teammates, respect your teachers, and remember that this is temporary (as Miss Gina likes to say "you're never going to be in this moment, with these people, doing this thing the same way ever again").
Kelly also shared her thoughtful insight, reflection, and valuable lessons learned over her many years with SDNJ. She said, “The biggest lesson I have learned and experienced first hand is that life is what you make it. Spending time with the staff and with my peers reminds me on a daily basis that everything in life is a choice. I chose to be a part of this family and I have been reminded every day how awesome that decision was and it has shaped every element of who I am. If you think about life as if it's a three minute performance, what parts of your life would you want to highlight the most? You get to pick those highlights, you get to pick those emotions, you get to choose who you want to be. I've learned to take care of this passion and nurture it, and throughout this process, I've realized I was nurturing myself all along. Had I not devoted the last ten years of my life to the company, I would not be who I am today and I owe that all to the studio and the staff.”
Kelly- Your exemplary work ethic, perseverance, and passion will be so missed next season. We are so proud of you, and can’t wait to see all you continue to achieve in the future. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. Shine bright, always.
We are so excited for our 2023 showcases, “Next Stop Broadway!” We can’t wait to see all of our STARS shine this Sunday ✨
Senior Spotlight! Senior dancer, Erica, is a member of our Competitive Company, is a studio intern for our program, and has been an invaluable part of our Starstruck Dance family for 15 years! Erica will be attending the University of Maryland next year. She will be pursuing a major in Biological Sciences with a focus in Physiology and Neurobiology and plans on continuing to dance in college. Some of her favorite dance memories took place at the beginning of each competition season when all of the teams would come together to share their pieces with one another. She said, “The love and support from each team fills the room, and the excitement, the cheering, and the passion creates a feeling in the studio like no other.”
Erica shared some reflection, lessons learned, and advice to pass along to the younger dancers in our program. She said, “By being a part of this family/program, I have learned the importance of perseverance. My time at Starstruck has also taught me the importance of versatility, and the ability to accept and apply constructive criticism. Some advice I would give to the younger dancers or to my younger self would be to never underestimate your potential. You are capable of so many wonderful things! There are going to be tough days, but use them to motivate you for tomorrow. Soak in every moment you have whether it’s in the studio or on stage, because it all goes by so quickly. Stay inspired, and always remember you have something so special to share.”
Erica also shared how dance has positively shaped her life over the past 15 years in our program. She said, “Being a dancer at SDNJ is one of the greatest things in my life. It has brought me my best friends, who are like family, and the most accepting and welcoming support system. The bonds that I share with my teammates and my teachers are truly irreplaceable, and will last a lifetime.”
Erica- Your humility, authenticity, and incredible versatility will be so missed next season. We are so proud of you, and can’t wait to see all you continue to achieve in the future. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. Shine bright, always.
A wonderful dress rehearsal week before performing under the bright lights of stage! We can’t wait to see our dancers shine this weekend! ✨
Senior Spotlight! Senior dancer, Sophia, has been an integral part of our Starstruck Dance family and competitive company for over ten years! She will be attending College of Charleston and will be majoring in Meteorology where she hopes to become a Broadcast Meteorologist in the future. Sophia shared that some of her favorite memories are supporting our younger dancers at competition and Nationals with the studio. She said, “I love spending time with my friends and teachers whether that be on the Wildwood boardwalk or back at the hotel- it's the best way to end the season.”
Sophia shared how dance has positively shaped her life during her time at SDNJ. She said, “I'm the hardworking, confident, outgoing person that I am today because of dance and the love and support behind it. I've learned so much from dance at such a young age, and it really has changed my perception and how I go through life. Dance has helped me mature into a strong independent woman, and has taught me the real value of work ethic and teamwork. Ever since I took my first dance class at Starstruck about 13 years ago, I've felt nothing but love. I’ve learned how to express myself, how to be creative, and to find my true self confidence. I could not be more grateful for the life lessons I've learned here at Starstruck.”
Sophia also shared some advice for the younger dancers and tells them to never give up. She said, “There will always be somebody out there who is better than you, but let that person be a role model, let them motivate you, and never let them discourage you. You are strong, and you are capable. Most importantly, be thankful to have such an amazing dance family. I can never fully thank this family for everything they have done for me, especially the amazing teachers behind the program that I have grown up with, admired, and will continue to look up to for the rest of my life.”
Sophia- Your bubbly personality, strength, and kindheartedness will be so missed next season. We are so proud of you, and can’t wait to see all you continue to achieve in the future. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. Shine bright, always.
Senior Spotlight! Senior dancer, Lainie, has been an important part of our Starstruck Dance family for 15 years! She will be attending Monmouth University and plans on majoring in Psychology. Some of Lainie’s favorite dance memories from Starstruck include recitals, picking out costumes, and meeting new people! Lainie said, “Dance has helped me learn important life lessons such as determination and time management. Having a busy schedule made attending dance classes challenging, but staying determined made me learn to manage my time better.”
Lainie also shared, “Being a part of Starstruck dance studio has taught me about friendships and how to overcome difficult situations. I would tell the younger dancers to never give up. If they have a goal in mind, they should fight to achieve that goal everyday.”
Lainie- We have been filled with joy having you in our program and watching you keep dance in your life for 15 years! We are so proud of you, and can’t wait to see all you continue to achieve in the future. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. Shine bright, always.
Senior Spotlight! Senior dancer, Liana, has been an influential member of our Starstruck Dance family for many years as both a competitive company dancer and a studio intern for our program. She will be attending Boston College next year and plans on pursuing a degree in Marketing while continuing to dance in college. Liana shared that some of her favorite memories have taken place during studio spirit weeks and supporting the younger dancers at competitive events. She said, “It is so refreshing to see the happiness dance brings them and to instill the family bond Starstruck has. It’s wonderful to cheer each other on and celebrate each others accomplishments.”
Liana shared how dance has positively shaped her life during her time at SDNJ and some important lessons she has learned along the way. Liana said, “An important lesson I have learned by being apart of the SDNJ family is the importance of inclusivity in dancing and in life. As a dancer at Starstruck, I have always found myself to be in a safe environment where I am pushed to try new things but am also in tune with my body’s abilities. I feel confident in being able to speak up to my teachers about anything and am always met with support and encouragement. They consistently remind us that everyone’s bodies are different and have different capabilities, and that is such an important reminder to young people who can get caught up thinking they always need to be perfect at everything. Starstruck allows for all dancers to shine through the choreography given to them and allows everyone to have a moment in the spotlight, perfectly blending everyone’s differing strengths with the same quality of movement and artistry.”
Liana shares some wisdom for the younger dancers. She said, “Dance has positively influenced my life in a number of ways. Dance has taught me discipline that I use in school, the importance of being in tune with your body, and has allowed me to fully express myself in a safe space. Dance has also taught me the importance of responsibility by assistant teaching and perseverance through working to gain skills and improve my dancing. Always motivate yourself to be fully present in class! As a senior, I value class time more than ever and am so thankful for the time I have to learn and grow in dance and alongside friends. While sometimes life is overwhelming and it may be hard to motivate yourself, always push to show up and be present in the moment because it allows you to escape whatever stressors are going on outside the studio space and to be in tune with your body, mind, and soul! Without dance, I would not be able to call myself the well rounded individual I am today, and would not be as confident in myself without the support of my teammates and teachers.
Liana- Your strong stage presence, commitment, and leadership will be so missed next season. We are so proud of you, and can’t wait to see all you continue to achieve in the future. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. Shine bright, always.
Senior Spotlight! Senior dancer, Alex, has been an important part of our Starstruck Dance family and competitive company for many years! She will be attending Fordham University next season and plans on pursuing a degree in Biology alongside Dance through an independent study program with Alvin Ailey. Alex shared that one of her favorite memories at Starstruck was earning the Most Improved Award at recital and the support she received from her teammates. She also noted her first class at SDNJ as one of her favorite memories and shared, “I did not know anybody, but they all welcomed me like I had been dancing with them for years.”
Alex shared how dance has positively shaped her life during her time at SDNJ. She said, “Dance has taught me to appreciate the connection between my body and my mind and how it creates a meditative experience. It has inspired me to dedicate my college education to the sciences to observe these connections. The art of dance comes to me in the feeling of movement and seeing others perform. It allows me to connect with myself in such an intimate and intricate way, especially because it requires confidence, strength, concentration, and precision. Alex tells the younger dancers in the program, “Remember to relax. Whenever you are feeling insecure in your movement and technique or you are feeling physically and mentally challenged by dance, relax. Dance is hard, but the challenge should be rewarding and, in a sense, enjoyable. Also, appreciate your time in the studio and be gentle with yourself.”
Alex also shared some additional lessons learned over her time in our program. She said, “I have learned to appreciate the privilege of having support. The Starstruck family is such an inclusive, selfless, and loving group of people. I am so grateful my teachers and friends reminded me time and time again that I have their love and support.“
Alex- Your sincerity, determination, and strength will be so missed next season. We are so proud of you, and can’t wait to see all you continue to achieve in the future. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. Shine bright, always.
Senior Spotlight! Senior dancer, Ria, has been an important part of our Starstruck Dance family for many years! She will be attending the University of Michigan to pursue Data Science and Psychology. Ria shared that some of her favorite memories at Starstruck include Friendsgiving dinner and holiday spirit weeks. She said, “I love dressing up with my team and spending time with the whole studio outside of weekly rehearsals. I also enjoy competitions, particularly nationals, for the same reason, as they allow me to build stronger relationships with my teammates while spending a week doing what we love together.”
Ria shared how dance has positively shaped her life during her time at SDNJ as well as some advice for the younger dancers. She said, “Dance has helped me establish routine in my life and commit to something bigger than myself. Amidst everything going on, I’ve always been thankful to have a place where I can express my emotions in a healthy manner and be celebrated for my vulnerability. I would advise younger dancers to strive for constant growth rather than perfection. Competitive dance is built on comparison, and it can be hard to not let that mindset overrun your true motivation to dance. A successful competition or season may not always depend on the awards or commendation you get if you and your teachers can see consistent progress. Push yourself, but be kind to yourself and your body.
Ria also shared, “Over my time on the company, I’ve learned dedication, discipline, and how to take constructive criticism, lessons which I consistently apply to my life. Being on a company requires some sacrifice, but the end product of collaboration and persistence from my entire team is evident every year when competition season rolls around. I’m so thankful for my family here at Starstruck, and I hope to always be surrounded by people who believe in my potential and will always root for my success.“
Ria- Your friendly personality, consistency, and grace will be so missed next season. We are so proud of you, and can’t wait to see all you continue to achieve in the future. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. Shine bright, always.
Senior Spotlight! Senior dancer, Alyson, has been an important part of our Starstruck Dance family for many years! She will be attending American University studying Business and Entertainment and minoring in Dance. Some of her favorite dance memories at Starstruck have taken place during competitive events. What she enjoyed most was “everything about competition weekends- the feeling of being on stage, seeing teammates in the wings and cheering each other on from the audience, and the long breaks when we would just spend time with each other.”
Alyson shared how dance has positively shaped her life during her time at SDNJ. She said, “Dance has allowed me to consistently grow as an artist and learn how to express myself through movement. I feel like I have found my artistic voice over the past five years between each technique class and piece of choreography. Dance has also given me all of my teammates, who I am lucky enough to also call my best friends, and each and every one of them has shaped me just as much as dance itself has, simply by being who they are and allowing me to be who I am.”
Alyson also shares some valuable insight for the younger dancers in the program. She said, “The most important thing is living in the moment and realizing that personal growth is more rewarding than competing with your peers. Everything flew by faster than I could've possibly imagined it would, and I just wish I had known how precious each moment with my Starstruck family was before it was almost gone. Dance has taught me so many lessons beyond my technique. It gives me structure in my schedule and creates discipline, as well as the ability to accept constructive criticism. I think most of all, it has taught me to push through difficult times. I know I will treasure and carry these skills with me through college and beyond. “
Alyson- Your diligence, growth, and artistry will be so missed next season. We are so proud of you, and can’t wait to see all you continue to achieve in the future. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. Shine bright, always.
Happy Birthday, Fiona! We loved celebrating with you, your family, and friends! Wishing you an amazing year ahead and always✨🎂🎈
