Our strong and courageous Sonny. There’s been no easy way for us to process how this year started, when we found out that our four month old son was blind.
Weeks of pediatric appointments, MRI scans, and eye specialist visits all pointed to the evidence that our son would never see again. The most shocking and heartbreaking news as a parent that our sweet baby had been in the dark this whole time.
Our family went to war spiritually with us in prayer over Sonny. Without knowing, Cameron and I were praying the same verse over our him….
“O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.” 2 Kings 6:17 NLT
That was just a small sample of ways the Lord was meeting us day after day, changing and challenging our hearts. We were being trained to literally live by faith and not by sight.
Last week our church had a powerful healing night just days before our baby’s surgery. We came still grieving, and I had been filled with anxiety for weeks to the point of not being able to breathe. While Sonny’s eyes were prayed over for healing that night, our anxiety completely left.
When we took Sonny to his surgery we were flooded with peace that only makes sense with Jesus, even when the surgeon couldn’t promise us there would be any vision left after surgery. When the bandages came off of Sonny he looked into our face for the first time- and we knew right away the Lord had RESTORED his vision.
We went from hearing “I’m sorry to give you this terrible news” to “that is not a blind child anymore!” all because of God. This will be a long road to recovery for Sonny still as we have just started the rehab process, but we know Gods not finished yet.
We are so grateful for our family and community, the Bozeman Fire Department, and our church for lifting Sonny up in this season. We could not be more thankful for the specialists, anesthesiologists and nurses that loved on Sonny just as much. We are PRAISING Jehovah Rapha for all he has done.
