There are still spots available for your band to participate in the 2023 Highland/ASU Jazz Festival!

The HAJF offers a different experience for your students. Our clinicians are top-level jazz educators from all over the country. We offer a student-led jam session during the lunch breaks, master classes on Friday and Saturday afternoon from Arizona jazz educators and musicians and world class concerts by the ASU Concert Jazz, Highland Jazz Band Black, the All-Star Combo (our clinicians) and this year the ASU Faculty & Alumni Jazztet. There is something for everyone. Our festival is very approachable for both young and experienced jazz ensembles and combos, with an option to perform for comments only if that feels more accessible for you.

Our 12th Annual Festival will be featuring the best of the best in the Arizona jazz scene - the ASU Faculty & Alumni Jazztet with Clark Gibson, Andy Gross, Jayson Davis and Michael Lake. It is sure to be an amazing event!

After a two year hiatus the Highland/ASU Jazz Festival is back! We are excited to welcome over 40 bands from Arizona AND California to this year’s event with clinics, master classes and performances.

Friday Night- All-Star Clinician Combo & Highland Jazz Band Black

Saturday Night- Judge’s Winning Band & ASU Jazz Faculty with Joe Lovano

Join us in celebrating bringing live jazz back to the valley this weekend!

The guest artist will be joined by some of our clinicians in an all-star combo performance with the Arizona State University Concert Jazz Band led by Michael Kocour. In addition, the jazz band/combo that receives the Judge’s Most Outstanding Award will open Saturday’s concert!

IT'S JAZZ FESTIVAL WEEK!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone that has volunteered to help over the last couple of weeks, its very much appreciated!

We have some slots still to be filled in the evenings and especially on Saturday night. Saturday night clean up is where many hands will make the work go quickly. My goal all along is to not have the directors still at the school at 1am - as they have been in years past.

It’s now just ONE WEEK until the Highland/ASU Jazz Festival! I can not believe how fast we got to this point and I’m really looking forward to seeing all jazz band students from around the state come visit Highland and perform. It is truly one of my favorite events we host and participate in each year. This event is also a great fundraising opportunity for the ENTIRE band program – especially the concession stand we run for the event. As we get closer and closer to the festival, I would really appreciate your help to make it happen for all of those students and for our band program. The volunteer sign-up has a lot of openings to lend a hand and not require you to be at the school all-day. Please take a look and see where you can help us out with the festival. Also, we have a food donation sign up – the last one of the year – every dollar we save by having food and beverages donated is another dollar we can put right into the band’s general fund directly impacts each and every band student. Please take a moment and see what you can help us out with by donating and dropping it by the band room prior to the event. Thank you so much for all you do to help out and I very much hope to see you at the festival!
