It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dave Hall, emeritus assistant chairman of the Gerry Rodeo on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Although Dave often worked behind the scenes, many of our more seasoned contestants and rodeo personnel remember Dave well. Dave started his work with the rodeo at a very young age along with his sister, Temple Atwell. He began volunteering at the rodeo when he was short enough to fit under the bleachers with a sickle to knock down weeds. Dave’s dedication continued throughout his entire life. Along with his voluntary roles in the Gerry Fire Department from president, vice president, trustee, to multiple line officer roles, Dave was also the rodeo chairman from 1968-2005, and continued as the assistant chairman and finally as the emeritus assistant chairman. Essentially, Dave has been a part of every Gerry Rodeo since 1945.
His work, like that of countless others, has made the Gerry Rodeo what it is today. His legacy will live on both by our goal of getting to our 100th annual rodeo in just 18 short years, and by sharing “Dave” stories when we can. We would love to hear any Dave stories you may have.
Godspeed, Rodeo Dave – you will be missed, and we will work hard to carry on the tradition of rodeo and make you proud.
