Could it be that I’m seeing something unique in the world? Right now, it seems to me, everyone is being forced to examine what’s important, what’s vital, what do each of us really need?
Fairly certain, toilet paper isn’t actually the priority. Connection with each other is high on my list. You probably are making phone calls to family and friends.
Personally, I resent feeling helpless. Don’t care about going to town normally but being told (received “suggestions”) to stay home only makes me want to go to town and shake hands with everyone I see.
But, I will mow today, work on the new deck and fix something amazing for supper. Shar and I miss our grandboys and our children... though they are grown with children of their own. Phone calls are nice, FaceTime is great too.
But I want to hug the whole world and I want the world to be able to hug me back. So what does a nation do in a survival situation? Stay connected, communicate clearly, truthfully. Don’t tolerate exasperated hysteria... we don’t need wringing of the hands or silly bravado; we need deliberate efforts.
1. Plant some food, this could last awhile.
2. Stay healthy, no need for unnecessary risks
3. Understand your resources
4. Do your research. No masks? Learn how to make them. No hand sanitizer? Read the ingredients off the bottle and replicate, most important ingredients are listed first
5. Bake your own bread. You’d be amazed what the fragrance of fresh baked bread can do for a home.
6. Buy staples; dry milk, flour, beans, rice, canned meats. This could last awhile.
7. Be confident. In the past, whatever we have focused upon, we have succeeded. Perhaps you don’t know how to bake... you don’t like to cook... Survival skills are like algebra, you don’t have to love it or even like it... you just need to be able to do it.
No don’t get the wrong idea... I don’t sit around plotting survival tactics. There’s no camouflage clothing in my home... but if you know a few things to bring familiar comfort it can take the edge off your anxiety and give you confidence to overcome.
