Based on a photograph taken of her young son, Jeremie Fletcher Bourcy’s "Poppy Tunes" is now decorating Austin Ave and 2nd St near Encantada.
Exaggerated poppy flowers bend toward her son as he plays, Fletcher Bourcy’s work capturing the simplistic beauty, “I know the city flower is a poppy, and there's this beautiful photograph that I took of my son outside of our house, in front of my art barn- that's my studio- of him with an inflatable guitar singing to the flowers, and it was the most beautiful thing that I had seen him do.”
Having friends and family in Georgetown, Fletcher Bourcy has seen the burgeoning arts community grow exponentially within the last few years, which she attempts to capture in Poppy Tunes, “You guys are fun, there's a lot going on in the city. There's this eclectic artsy vibe that's here.”
Aside from contributing to the scenic Arts District, Fletcher Bourcy hopes to connect to the diverse Georgetown community with her message of positivity and innocence, “The whole point of my artwork is to have this fun element of, you know, it appeals to children, appeals to older people, and just this, you know, different energy to inspire people to maybe want to create something or just to feel good about walking by and seeing a piece of art, and just feeling good and inspired and positive… Just be yourself, sing to some flowers every now and then, and just feel like a kid again for just a minute.”
Fletcher Bourcy’s work was selected from over 40 submissions as part of the 2026 Utility Box Art open call. Her work and two other pieces will be on view in the Downtown Cultural District until 2029.
