Georgetown Palace Theatre The Georgetown Palace Theatre brings a full season of live musicals and plays to Georgetown, Texas!
(390)

Since 1926, The Georgetown Palace has served as the entertainment center for Central Texas, Georgetown and Williamson County. In the late 1990’s, a group of community members began an effort to save and refurbish this historic movie house. Today, as a result of their efforts, The Palace Theatre is a thriving nonprofit organization that continually produces a live main stage theatrical season of mu

sicals, dramas and comedies. In addition, The Palace Education Program offers year- round after school, weekend and summer theatre workshops for adults and students in grades 1 – 12.

🎉Today we celebrate our Executive Artistic Director, Ron Watson! 🎉

After one of the most challenging six-month periods in our theatre's history, we couldn't be more grateful for Ron's leadership, vision, and unwavering dedication. From navigating the move of the Playhouse and relocating offices to guiding us through the extensive damage to our beautiful 100-year-old theatre, Ron has led the way with determination, grace, and optimism.

His commitment to the Georgetown Palace Theatre, our artists, volunteers, staff, and patrons has helped keep us moving forward through every challenge. We are incredibly fortunate to have him at the helm as we continue our journey of restoration and renewal.

Please join us in wishing Ron a very happy birthday! We hope your day is filled with joy, laughter, and a well-deserved chance to relax and celebrate.

Happy Birthday, Ron, and thank you for all you do! 🎉🎂🎈

Choreographer Spotlight: Matt Kennedy

Matt is an actor, dancer, and choreographer in the greater Austin area. His intention as a choreographer, dancer, and artist is to utilize the profound tool of dance to unlock storytelling potential in bodies of work that are too often overlooked.

Q&A Round 1: Jesus Christ Superstar x Matt Kennedy

Q: What is the one thing you want your dancers to say about their experience in your rehearsal room when the show closes?

A: I hope, most importantly, that they had a good time. I know that sounds cliche, but truly I hope that they were able to learn something new from this experience, whether that be a tangible skill or new perspective on movement, that they achieved the high level of performance they desired, and that they had a great time while progressing through the work.

Q: How would you describe your aesthetic, and how does it fit a rock opera?

A: I would say my aesthetic is full and kinetic. I love to fill space and make use of images, pictures, shapes, direction, while using movement to make people listen to what is being conveyed or told. What makes it work with this rock opera, is that so many instruments and voices are joining together to fill the space of story and bring it to life. Why not match that energy with story-driven kinesthesis?

There will be more to come from this amazing choreographer and his journey with us here at the Palace through Jesus Christ Superstar!
