Q&A Round 1: Jesus Christ Superstar x Matt Kennedy
Q: What is the one thing you want your dancers to say about their experience in your rehearsal room when the show closes?
A: I hope, most importantly, that they had a good time. I know that sounds cliche, but truly I hope that they were able to learn something new from this experience, whether that be a tangible skill or new perspective on movement, that they achieved the high level of performance they desired, and that they had a great time while progressing through the work.
Q: How would you describe your aesthetic, and how does it fit a rock opera?
A: I would say my aesthetic is full and kinetic. I love to fill space and make use of images, pictures, shapes, direction, while using movement to make people listen to what is being conveyed or told. What makes it work with this rock opera, is that so many instruments and voices are joining together to fill the space of story and bring it to life. Why not match that energy with story-driven kinesthesis?
