We’re ready to head to Owosso Speedway on June 3, a historic racetrack steeped in open-wheel history.
Inaugural RFTM winner, Aaron Willison, lowered the existing all-time Owosso Speedway track record to 12.443 seconds last August. RFTM competitors will be looking to lower it even further on June 3.
The track opened for business in 1939 as a 1/4-mile dirt track. A half-mile was later added using the straightaway of the existing 1/4-mile. The track was reduced to a 3/8-mile in 1988 and paved into its current form, and underwent a repave in 2023.
The facility was utilized for multiple purposes during WWII.
The popularity of the post-war midget boom was on full display at Owosso Speedway. A significant number of AAA midget races were held at the speedway and witnessed by huge crowds during the midget heyday.
The speedway has been the site of a number of significant late model stock car races over the years, but sprint cars and supermodifieds have also played a significant role in its racing history.
Owosso Speedway has hosted a number of traveling sprint car series over the last five decades. Must See Racing, Auto Value Super Sprints, Tri-Sac, 500 Sprint Car Tour, and ICAR are just a few of the many sprint car series that have competed at the speedway over the years.
Current owner Rex Wheeler has made several significant upgrades to the facility since purchasing it in 2022. It is now considered one of the finest short-track facilities in the Midwest.
Mark your calendars! We’ll see you there June 3rd.
