A message from our Geneva Grape Jamboree Board President about our amazing volunteers. The purple people.
I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible people who make the Geneva Area Grape Jamboree possible.
Many people enjoy the parades, entertainment, food, rides, contests and activities throughout the weekend. What they may not see is the tremendous amount of time, effort and teamwork that happens behind the scenes to bring it all together.
The Jamboree is made possible by a group of about 30 dedicated volunteers who refuse to let one another down.
They aren't employees. They don't get a paycheck. They have jobs, families, responsibilities and lives of their own. Yet they give up countless evenings, attend countless meetings, answer phone calls and text messages, solve problems most people never know happened, and then show up during Jamboree weekend ready to give even more.
And this weekend, every single one of them went above and beyond.
I watched people step up when they were tired. I watched them take on tasks that weren't necessarily “their job” because they needed to be done. I watched them support one another, solve problems, adapt to challenges and do whatever it took to make the weekend a success.
That is what makes this group so special.
They are more than volunteers. They are the people who keep the Jamboree moving forward. They are the reason the community can come together each year to enjoy one of the biggest festivals in Ohio.
Thirty people.
No paycheck.
A whole lot of late nights, meetings, hard work, laughs, challenges, probably a few choice words along the way, and more purple than any human being should probably own.
Somehow, together, they make it happen year after year.
That is pretty incredible when you stop and think about it.
So, from the Geneva Area Grape Jamboree and the entire community:
Thank you.
Thank you for giving your time.
Thank you for solving the problems no one sees.
Thank you for supporting one another.
Thank you for helping create a weekend that brings so much fun, pride and community spirit to the area.
The next time you attend the Grape Jamboree, take a moment to look around. Behind every event, activity and celebration is a team of dedicated people working hard to make it possible.
This group is truly something special, and the Geneva Area Grape Jamboree is fortunate to have them.
