The good news is that there are a TON of exciting arts events happening this weekend in the Finger Lakes. The bad news is that Finger Lakes Photo/Plays will not be one of them. Due to low enrollment, The Smith Opera House and the producers of Finger Lakes Photo/Plays have made the difficult decision to cancel Photo/Plays Feb. 28-March 1, 2026. When we set the date for this event back in the late summer, we had no idea how action-packed this weekend would end up being for the arts in the region. There are worse reasons to have to cancel, but even so, it’s very disappointing. There are currently no plans to reschedule. Should a new date present itself, we’ll announce on social media. The Smith Opera House in Geneva, NY is looking for Actors, Directors, Playwrights, and Stage Managers to create a series of SHORT, BRAND NEW plays, all inspired by the same [super secret] photograph. 2026 Photographer:

Participants must register in advance and be 18 or older. No theatre experience necessary. The photo has been selected! The roles have been assigned! Tomorrow, our artists arrive at The Smith Opera House for “The Reveal,” where they will see July Winters’ photo for the very first time. By Sunday evening, we’ll have a set of brand new plays to perform for YOU, all inspired by this year’s incredible photo! This one night only, world premiere performance will be Sunday February 4 at 7:30 pm. Free! (Donations happily accepted for The Smith.)

Did you register to participate? Check your email to find out if you’ll be an actor, director, playwright, or stage manager! And then be at The Smith at 3 pm on Saturday to meet your team and see the photo!
