Earl VOX Studio

Earl VOX Studio Vocal training in mix technique for singers of Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) styles.

I teach voice lessons in the mix technique to singers of non-classical styles such as pop, R&B/soul, gospel, contemporary Christian, rock, country, and musical theatre. This approach allows students to develop a connected voice from chest voice to upper head voice with power, clarity, flexibility, and endurance. Lessons are available in person in my Indiana studio or online via Skype and FaceTime.

Music is one of the strongest tools for early brain growth. Children learn best through sound, rhythm, and movement, and these experiences build important pathways in the developing mind. Music supports thinking skills long before homework can make a difference.

Researchers found that even one year of music lessons can raise a child’s IQ in a meaningful way. The combination of rhythm, listening, and coordination activates many parts of the brain at the same time. This activity strengthens memory, focus, and problem solving.

When children clap, sing, or explore simple instruments, their brain becomes more flexible. These moments train attention and pattern recognition, which help with reading and learning later. Music also supports emotional growth by giving children a safe way to express feelings.

Parents may think music is only a hobby, but science shows it is a powerful form of training. It teaches timing, patience, and listening, skills that shape strong thinking habits. These lessons help the brain grow in ways that worksheets cannot.

Offering music in daily life, even through simple songs or steady beats, supports healthy development. With time and practice, children gain confidence and sharper thinking, showing how deeply music guides the mind during early growth.

God’s love is unconditional.

It isn’t earned by perfection.
It isn’t limited by mistakes.
It doesn’t disappear when life gets messy.

God’s love meets you exactly where you are—with grace, compassion, and open arms. No matter what you’ve been through or what you’re carrying today, never forget this: you are deeply loved, fully known, and never alone.

Today we pause to honor and remember the brave individuals who gave their lives in service to others. 🇺🇸

Memorial Day is a time to reflect with gratitude for the sacrifices made by so many and to hold close the memories of those who are no longer with us.

Students of all ages come and go through our studios. Some stay for a short time, and others we have the privilege of working with for years.

Whether it was one lesson or years of instruction, you may never fully know the impact you’ve had.

I was reminded of that this week when a former student emailed me after finishing her undergrad. She shared that it was a conversation we had about speech-language pathology that helped guide her toward her new career path.

Her love of singing.
Her curiosity about the voice.
A simple conversation just one time in a singing lesson.

Singing isn’t something people grow out of.
It’s something they grow into, again and again, in different seasons of life.

So when you create spaces rooted in curiosity, play, and joy, you’re giving your students something they can carry with them forever.

A way to express.
A way to connect.
A way to belong.

To the teachers doing this work, it matters. 💛

Happy World Voice Day, Friends!

Some students leave your studio with stronger high notes.

Some leave with confidence to speak in class.
To audition.
To make friends.
To take up space.
To say yes...or no.

Some leave knowing how to handle nerves.
How to practice something difficult.
How to keep going after mistakes.
How to breathe through hard moments.

Some leave with memories of singing with you after a difficult school day.
Some leave remembering that your studio was the one place they felt safe to be fully themselves.

Voice lessons were never just about singing.

And even if a student only stays for one season, they carry pieces of your teaching with them for the rest of their lives. 💗💗💗

Today's Vocal Tip clip deals with the opposite issue of the previous video about using the hooty 'OO' to combat a high larynx. This time, the focus is on releasing a depressed larynx caused by a retracted tongue. The witchy pharyngeal 'AGH' is our tool of choice. The exaggeration is temporary and the goal is to be able to get a more natural balanced laryngeal position. Enjoy the wackiness of making the ugly sound - we all need fun nowadays. 🎙️🗣️🎵🎹

Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. Or, in plain English: it is a day to point out that LGBTQ people are too often treated like garbage for being honest about who they are.

They get mocked by family. Pushed out of churches. Bullied at school. Targeted by politicians. Blamed for things they did not cause. Told they are confused, sinful, dangerous, or broken by people who have never had to defend their own right to exist.

So no, this day is not about being “too sensitive.” It is not about asking everyone to clap for a rainbow flag.

It is about saying the obvious thing out loud: you can believe whatever you want, but the moment your beliefs turn into cruelty, harassment, exclusion, or laws that make life harder for LGBTQ people, you are not protecting family values. You are just hurting people.

You do not have to understand someone to stop being awful to them.

That is the whole point.
