Becky Krill is a Rhode Island born, Brooklyn-based, q***r singer-songwriter and music producer whose sound has been compared to the likes of Alanis Morissette, Tracy Chapman and Ani Difranco. Crafted lovingly with a Taylor Guitar, a MacBook Pro and a talented community of collaborators, her debut album ‘Little Girl’ (2021) delivers equal parts Americana, RnB and Soul with a touch of 90’s punk-rock nostalgia sprinkled in for good measure.

Coming up next for Night 18 of  is Joe from . Come join us on Wednesday 12/11 at  to hear him and throw your name in the hat to perform in our open round. Here’s a little bit about Joe:

Joe Makoviecki is the singer-songwriter and guitarist of the Pine Barrens folk band Jackson Pines. They have been featured on PBS and NPR Music for their original songwriting, as well as interpretations of regional folk songs stretching back hundreds of years. Billboard magazine has described their sound as  “Tom Petty mixed with James Taylor, with a major focus on acoustic guitar.” Purgatory Road (Deluxe Edition), just came out December 6th and features 20 original songs, demos, and b-sides. Rhythmic fingerpicking accompanies stories of hard times, undying love, and growing up along the road of life.

Our third curated artist for Night 18 of  is . Come join us at 7PM on Wednesday 12/11 at  to hear him and throw your name in the hat to perform in our open round. Here’s a little bit about Steve:

Pianist, singer, and composer Steve Shimchick is 1/3 of the NJ-based alternative folk band Cold Weather Company. Through CWC and his solo project—Spiral Seas—Steve explores and mixes an array of genres, moods, and styles. Steve began taking classical piano lessons when he was 5 and cofounded Cold Weather Company in 2013. The band has since released over 65 original songs (and Steve will shamelessly plug their holiday original “Warmth in Winter” here). Their fifth full-length album is due to release in early 2025. Steve is always looking to expand his musical palette and loves being introduced to new artists and songs.

Emily Gabriele, known as “EG,” is a New York City-based singer-songwriter and performing artist. Blending pop with a touch of rock, her sound has been compared to Olivia Rodrigo and Alanis Morissette. She has performed at renowned NYC venues like Mercury Lounge, Arlene’s Grocery, and Bowery Electric. Her music spans genres, from brit-pop to garage rock, showcasing her versatility. In 2022, Emily released her album Omega Man, earning critical acclaim. Singles “Talking to Strangers” and “Freedom” charted in the top 200 on Triple A radio. Recently, she signed songs to APM Music Library and expanded her reach with trips to Nashville and LA, performing at festivals, writer rounds, and co-writing sessions. EG continues to captivate audiences with her dynamic artistry and storytelling.

Our first curated artist for Night 18 of Writers 'Round NJ is Lance Greene. Come join us at 7PM on Wednesday 12/11 at Crossroads to hear him and throw your name in the hat to perform in our open round. Here's a little bit about Lance:

"I started writing songs at 14. Early on I was trying to differentiate myself from what seemed like a lot of artists and bands endlessly trying to get famous for reproducing something that had already been done. Almost to a fault, I started writing songs that didn’t really conform to the typical played out rhythms and melodies I was hearing over and over. After coming to the conclusion that I was maybe starting to write difficult songs for the sake of being difficult, I started trying to balance what makes a simple song good without doing something that sounds like it’s already been done. Hope you enjoy."

Our final curated artist for Night 17 of Writers 'Round NJ is Rhonette Smith. Come join us at 7PM on Wednesday 11/13 at Crossroads to hear her and throw your name in the hat to perform in our open round. Here's a little bit about Rhonette:

Rhonette Smith is a New Jersey pop-rock artist who bares her whole soul by exploring the dark sides of depression, anxiety, shame, guilt, and fear in her music. She has been exploring these themes as far back as her first song released at age 15. As a college student, Rhonette continued to write songs and began performing solo until 2013 when she connected with fellow musicians to form the indie rock band Centennials. She led this band fearlessly for nine years, playing shows across New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, releasing two EPs and one full-length record. In pursuit of a more personalized sound, Rhonette began performing and writing on her own again and released her solo full-length album Phantasmic in 2019. After a creative hiatus, Rhonette has thrown herself back into songwriting with major force, pursuing darker themes enriched with a heavier sound, with metal undertones.

She says, “I’ve wanted to have a career as a musician since I was a kid. After a long and winding path, I finally understood that nothing would really fulfill me like the dream I had all along. And the only way to find out if I could do it is to continue to try.”

Leah Thompson is a singer-songwriter from Long Branch, who seeks to blend the shadows of human experience with glimmers of hope and light. You can catch her playing acoustic around the Tri-State area or listen to produced versions of her songs on all streaming platforms.
