México 2000 Ballet Folklórico and México 2000 Folklórico Dance School has been in existence since 1998 and teaches an average of 120 students each year. M2K focuses in preserving, promoting and perform regional traditional Mexican dance.
Directors Alex and Mary Palencia have more than 70 years of combined experience as dancers, instructors, choreographers and directors. They teach dance workshops all over the U.S. and have vast knowledge of Mexican traditional dance. They prepare their students to perform in any kind of setting representing the Mexican culture with great respect. México 2000 Ballet Folklórico dance groups perform for all kind of cultural and private events and have presented more than 850 performances in 19 years.
From 2 to 32 dancers México 2000 Ballet Folklórico showcases regional traditional Mexican dance. Presentations are fast-paced; nonstop with 2 to 10 different dance regions, from the hot and humid climate in the southeast, the traditional northern dances with their Czechoslovak, Poland, French influence and the Pre-Columbian dances still preserve in these days. Learn the traditional and authentic dance "La Bamba" and enjoy the excitement and color of a Mexican Fiesta in Jalisco! Dance presentations range from 20 minutes to 2 hours. Residencies, workshops, lectures such: Cinco de Mayo, Independence, Death's Day, Mariachi, Mexican flag and Pre-Columbian culture.
México 2000 has competed since year 1999 in Folklórico Dance Competitions in Dallas, Corpus Christi, Houston & Lubbock in Texas as well in Los Angeles, New York and Colorado obtaining more than 300 awards in all categories. Also had received more than 35 local and state proclamations from city Mayors and a Texas Governor. México 2000 Ballet Folklórico has been part of Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Roster since 2003 and received the American Masterpieces designation in 2009 from the NEA (National Endowment for the Arts).
