โšพ It was a double-header for beautification efforts Saturday along Miller Road, where volunteers tackled two cleanup projects in one morning. Teams worked at Jon Comer Skatepark and Woodland Basin Nature Area, making a big impact in two very different community spaces.

๐Ÿ›น Skatepark Respect brought together volunteers from Garland Key Club, Garland High School, North Garland High School, and South Garland National Honor Society for a cleanup at Jon Comer Skatepark. Local families also joined the effort, helping collect litter and remove approximately 645 cigarette butts despite the summer heat. The morning wrapped up with a skate session featuring SPR and DFWSK8BABES, who also lent a hand during the cleanup.

๐ŸŽฃ After reaching out to Volunteer Garland to organize a service project, Springcreek Church volunteers headed to Woodland Basin Nature Area for a morning of stewardship. The group removed litter and helped restore the area, supporting ongoing efforts to keep this popular fishing spot and natural space clean and enjoyable for the community.

๐Ÿ† Safe to say this double-header was a home run for Garland. Thank you to every volunteer, partner, and community member who helped make these projects a success. First stop: Audubon!

Friends from Hollabaugh Recreation Center's RISE Teen Summer Camp kicked off their Tour de Parks by helping keep our community clean.

These young adventurers pulled trash from the park and local creek and even uncovered a few hidden treasures along the way.

Shoutout to this teen camp for getting down in the dirt for their community, and thank you to Hollabaugh's Edgar Barrientos for reaching out to Volunteer Garland and helping launch an awesome summer opportunity.

Interested in getting your hands dirty? Email us at [email protected] to get started.

Stay tuned to see where the RISE Teen Summer Camp heads next!

๐Ÿ“ข Event Rescheduled: Partners in Preservation: Hidden Gem Restoration

Due to recent weather conditions, the Preservation Society for Spring Creek Forest, Keep Garland Beautiful, and Volunteer Garland have rescheduled our preservation cleanup at the Mapleridge entrance to the forest preserve to Saturday, June 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

We'll meet at the trailhead, get everyone signed in, then walk together down the trail to a truly gorgeous natural setting tucked inside the preserve.
Take a moment to imagine this space completely free of litter:
๐ŸŒฟ A peaceful picnic spot
๐ŸŒฟ A quiet place to meditate with a friend
๐ŸŒฟ A beautiful area to explore nature and reconnect with the forest

Now let's make that vision real.

This is more than a cleanup. It's a chance to restore a special piece of the preserve and protect the beauty of Spring Creek Forest for everyone who visits after us.
All cleanup supplies will be provided, and reusable water containers will be provided by the City of Garland Stormwater Department.

โš ๏ธ Space is limited to 20 volunteers, so reserve your spot early!

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding. We hope you'll join us on June 20 as we work together to preserve one of Garland's hidden gems!

๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’™ In recognition of World Environment Day, we're celebrating true service in action!

Nearly 45 volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints came together for a community cleanup at Duck Creek Park, organized by Julia and Jorge Serrano and Eve Hughey, and supported by Volunteer Garland.

One of the most inspiring parts of the project was seeing multiple generations serving side by side. Families, children, youth, and adults worked together to help make Duck Creek Park cleaner, safer, and more welcoming for everyone who enjoys it.

Their efforts are a powerful reminder that when neighbors come together with a shared commitment to service, they can make a lasting impact on the community.

โค๏ธ Thank you to Julia and Jorge Serrano, Eve Hughey, and the volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for helping make Garland a cleaner and more connected community!

Volunteer Garland partners with local businesses, community members, churches, schools, and organizations to support cleanup efforts throughout our city. If you're interested in hosting your own cleanup, we'd love to help! Contact us at [email protected].
