Gardena Cinema was built in 1946 and has been operated by Judy Kim and the Kim family since 1976. Gardena Cinema is the only old-fashioned, single-screen, family-operated movie theater in the South Bay, showing first-run films and repertory titles. Since the closure of indoor cinema in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gardena Cinema has provided outdoor drive-in film exhibition in response

to the need to provide COVID-19 safe entertainment activities. Gardena Cinema is conveniently located 15 minutes southeast of Los Angeles International Airport, 1 mile south of SpaceX Headquarters, and 10 minutes south of the NFL Rams/Chargers Football Stadium.

The Gardena Cinema, 14948 Crenshaw Blvd., Gardena -- Looking down a flooded aisle last week. It's a photo shared by Judy Kim on Instagram. Some of her comments:

"This was our theatre this past Sunday, 5/31, after a pipe burst in our women’s restroom causing flooding in the bathroom, auditorium & lobby! We had to cancel screenings over the past couple of days, but our plumber thankfully stopped the flooding and fixed the pipe/plumbing issues in said bathroom. Unfortunately, it was a costly fix, in the low 5 figures. As a family owned & volunteer operated independent cinema, that is just barely getting by as it is, this was a costly setback for us. We’re now raising money to help cover a portion of the repairs..."
