In light of the chemical leak and evacuations in Garden Grove yesterday, we will be cancelling the Mẹ Ơi / Oh Mother! event at Junior High LA.

Many of our friends, family, and community have been affected by the ongoing situation and will continue to be affected. We want to prioritize the safety and mental wellbeing of our community, and we believe cancelling this event is the most responsible course of action.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who signed up, shared the event, and supported this gathering. A huge thank you as well to our panelists and film directors for wanting to be part of such a meaningful evening centered around motherhood, storytelling, and community. 🌸

While we are saddened to postpone, we fully intend to reschedule the event for a later date and hope to gather together soon in a space and time that feels right for everyone.

Again, we appreciate your understanding and hope that you and your families are safe during this time. 💛

Before May slips away, come celebrate the people who raised us, loved us, and shaped us at “Mẹ Ơi, Oh Mother!” In Vietnamese, “Mẹ ơi” is a tender call for “Mom,” filled with warmth, comfort, and love. 🌸✨

This special evening in celebration of Mother’s Day and AANHPI Heritage Month will feature short film screenings by Vietnamese American directors and producers: “Mẹ Con (My Mom),” “Newspapers,” and “No More Sad Songs.” Join us for a special Q&A session with Sophie Trần and Trace as they reflect on mother figures, storytelling, and community. We can’t forget the arts and crafts activities for everyone to enjoy together!

Bring your moms, aunties, chosen family, and loved ones. Hosted by the Vietnamese Creatives Collective, this all-ages event is open to everyone for just $10. 💕
