Garden City Arts

Garden City Arts GCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization with a gallery located in Downtown Garden City. We offer art exhibitions, art classes and cultural events.

Garden City Arts was founded in 1989 under the name of Southwest Arts & Humanities Council with the intent to bring more arts and humanities events to Southwest Kansas. The organization was housed in borrowed spaces for many years until moving to our current downtown location in 2001. During our history Garden City Arts has provided the community with numerous musical & theatrical performances, ch

ildren's art activities and several public works of art throughout Garden City. Currently we host 10 to 12 art exhibits every year and showcase the talents of local artists in our gift section. We also provide public works of art, cultural programs and art classes for both children and adults for residents of Southwest Kansas. Garden City Arts operates under the guidance of a 12 member board of directors and Executive Director Katy Guthrie.

Art in the Park isn't just about viewing art. It's also a chance to create it.

This year, visitors will find free hands-on activities throughout the west and southwest sides of Stevens Park.

ARTapalooza, the primary hub for artmaking activities, and many of the free activities throughout the park are made possible by **3G Electric**. We are grateful for their commitment to making creativity accessible to our community.

New this year, **The University of Kansas** will bring their Jayhawk Outreach Village, highlighting opportunities and resources available to Kansans across the state.

Watch artists create in real time at Art in the Park!

Visit the Artist Demo Booth in the southwest corner of Stevens Park and get a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process. Throughout the day, artists will be demonstrating a variety of techniques, including Lippan Art (a traditional Indian art form using mud and mirrors), pottery wheel throwing, painting, sculpting, and drawing.

Check out the schedule to see when your favorite demonstrations are taking place, then stop by to watch, ask questions, and connect with the artists.

New exhibits are now on view across Garden City, offering new opportunities to experience the work of talented artists throughout our community.

At Garden City Arts, explore 'From the Seat of a Bike' by WenDee Rowe, a collection of photographs inspired by her travels across Kansas by bicycle.

At Patrick Dugan's Coffee House, discover the work of Lexis Beesley, whose exhibit titled 'Germinate' brings a fresh perspective to the space.

At Hidden Trail Brewing, view artwork by Pam Bryan in her debut show, 'Art on Tap, Vol. 1', now on display alongside one of Garden City's favorite gathering places.

Whether you visit one location or all three, these exhibits are a reminder that art can be found throughout our community.

The 2026 Banner Art Project will be coming down on June 15, so now is the perfect time to take advantage of this beautiful weather and experience the artwork before it's gone.

Take a Sunday stroll through downtown and enjoy all 22 banners displayed along Main Street and 8th Street. Each banner was created by a local or regional artist and helps bring creativity into the spaces we share every day.

Use the map below to guide your tour. If you'd like to follow the numbered route, start at Garden City Arts and head north.

The Banner Art Project is a partnership between Garden City Arts and Downtown Vision.
