Studio 1212 started as the creative partnership of Derek & Danielle Hurd and has grown into a furniture design and maker space in the heart of the Surel Mitchell Live-Work-Create district in Garden City, Idaho. First exposed during his thesis year of his architectural degree, Derek has been designing and creating furniture since 1997 with an ever increasing love and workload. Studio 1212 ships our

furniture around the country and the world and we would be honored to make you something new this month. We love to create unique pieces and have conversations that start with “can you…?” Furniture is in our lives and we interact with it daily; it should be something special, something with a story, and a maker with a name rather than a factory

In 25 years I've only missed having work in this Interior Designers of Idaho furniture design event a few times. Good reasons like being out of the country or a venue boycott and not good reasons like not having a piece done in time. I'm still at it though, and I'd love to show you the commission I've been working on at Studio 1212 for the last couple of months. The clients will be seeing them finished here for the first time too and will be the only ones allowed to set their drinks on them.

Also, if you've got kids, are a teacher of kids, or want to be creative in a way you may have never been, check out the re-use cup challenge. Make a model chair out of the materials from a single coffee cup, lid, and stirrer.
