The National Weather Service has upgraded the Tropical Storm Watch to a Tropical Storm Warning for Galveston County. Current forecasts for Galveston indicate the potential for sustained winds of 30-35 mph with higher gusts Wednesday. A Coastal Flood Advisory and a Flood Watch remain in effect.

Vessel traffic was suspended at 11 a.m. Wednesday due to heavy weather. Port operations remain open, but workers are advised to exercise caution. Street flooding in and around the port complex remains a possibility.

Impacts from Tropical Storm Arthur are expected to diminish by Wednesday night as the storm continues northeast movement offshore.

2 PM TUESDAY, JUNE 16 – The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Galveston Island, as well as a Coastal Flood Advisory and a Flood Watch. Expect heavy rains of 4-8 inches, street flooding and winds 35-40 MPH through Wednesday night.

There's a 60 percent chance that the system will become the season's first named tropical storm as it moves into Gulf waters and organizes, moving slowly northeast along the Texas coast.

Gate 40, the Port of Galveston’s main entrance to the West Port Cargo Complex, will be closed due to road construction beginning June 15. It will remain closed for about 6 months.
