The Davie Defense-Gulf Copper Dry Dock & Rig Repair groundbreaking on Pelican Island today was a great day for Galveston and Texas. Gov. Greg Abbott was just one of the many distinguished speakers.

The Line Up band welcomed guests in the event tent. Federal, state, and local dignitaries had quite a view from the shipyard!

The port entrance to Cruise Terminal 28 at 33rd Street and Harborside Drive will have limited access beginning May 29 due to an ongoing Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) construction project.

This will impact Carnival Breeze passengers sailing May 30. Vehicles traveling on Harborside should turn north at 37th Street to access the terminal. An alternate route would be Broadway, then turn north on 37th Street.

Drivers in the area should allow additional travel time and possibly consider alternate routes.

Entrances for terminals 10, 16 and 25 are unchanged at this time. Carnival passengers sailing from Cruise Terminal 25 will continue to enter the cruise terminal area at 22nd and Harborside and exit at 23rd Street. Port police will facilitate traffic flow at the intersections during cruise operations.

The 33rd Street intersection construction is part of an ongoing Harborside construction project which requires alternate lane closures on Harborside Drive. Work to repair sections of concrete and asphalt pavement is expected to continue through the end of 2026.

The port will provide updates as they become available from TxDOT.

Breaking news! Port of Galveston will be home to the newly built when completed in 2028. Carnival Cruise Line announced this morning that this Excel-class ship will join sister ship , bringing even more fun vacation options for Galveston customers. https://www.carnival.com/cruise-ships/carnival-tropicale

I’m excited to share that the all-new Carnival Tropicale will set sail from Galveston in 2028, building on more than 25 years of our partnership with this incredible port. We were the first cruise line to homeport a ship here, and the first to welcome more than 10 million guests, and we are proud to keep growing our presence in Texas. With even more opportunities to experience the fun we are known for, and a Texas star proudly displayed on her bow, Carnival Tropicale is our newest way of celebrating the Lone Star State. Our Cruise Terminal 16 has been awarded the Houston Business Journal Landmark Award in the Special Projects category for its positive economic impact on the region. This beautiful, sustainably designed terminal opened in 2025 to homeport MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line ships. The port converted old cargo warehouses into a cruise terminal complex. https://www.portofgalveston.com/projects/cruise-terminal-16/
