The Egyptian room's ornate design is three dimensional, reminiscent of high and low reliefs of Ancient Egyptian temples. The room was restored to its original beauty after years of wear in 2008 under the direction of Clyde Wood, current G.T.A.P. board member.

The lotus symbols throughout the room represent reincarnation and rebirth. The ankh or hooked crosses prominently displayed represent life. The cartouches resemble scarabs, a symbol of immortality.

This room is considered by many the most beautiful Masonic lodge rooms in the state of Texas and definitely one of our favorites in design at the Galveston Scottish Rite.

Behind the scenes... literally.

The Great Western Stage Equipment Company was founded by T. L. Greening, L. J. Adler, and Samuel F. Hann, after Greening resigned from the Twin City Scenic Company. The company focused on a second generation of stage design for the Scottish Rite Temple of Freemasonry during the mid-twentieth century. Established in 1925, the Great Western Stage Equipment Company, was located in Kansas City, MO.

The United Scenic Artists (USA) Local 350 was the Chicago branch of a labor union and professional association for theatrical (and later television) artists, designers, and craftspeople. During the 1920s and 1930s, Local 350 was part of the Brotherhood of the Painters, Decorators, and Paperhangers of America. In 1990, Local 350 became part of USA Local 829 based in New York (N.Y.). Local 350, although based in Chicago, had members throughout the Midwest.

The drops located at the Galveston Scottish Rite are a priceless collection of art!
