NATIVE AMERICAN & INDIGENOUS ARTIST

PURCHASE INITIATIVE

Application opens September 1st, 2026. CLOSE: November 1st, 2026

New Mexico Arts’ Art in Public Places program announces the 2026 US Native American and Indigenous Artists Purchase Initiative (Prospectus #292). The goal of this initiative is to diversify the state’s public art collection by purchasing artwork from artists in all stages of their careers. The project is open to all artists residing in the United States as well as galleries in this region. Although this initiative is open to all artists, special consideration shall be given to artists who identify as members of a Native American tribe or community.

Galleries may submit qualifications on behalf of any artist represented by the gallery, regardless of the artist’s residency, so long as the artist identifies as a member of a Native American tribe or community.

Seeking artwork in the $5,000 – $50,000 price range.

AIPP Purchase Initiatives are managed through the callforentry.org

(CaFE platform).

Artists and their galleries will be able to submit up to three artworks per artist for consideration.

The applications will be open for 60 days.

New Mexico State Poet Laureate Manuel González is coming to the Main Library on Saturday, Oct 10th for a super cool "Poetry is Medicine" workshop from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. You don't need any writing experience at all to join in—plus, everyone gets free notebooks and pens!

The final Gallup Arts Crawl of the season happens Saturday, October 10, from 7–9 p.m.! Celebrate creativity and community at Gallup’s monthly downtown festival. From live performances and art demos to family crafts and local eats, it’s the perfect way to spend a Saturday night. Don’t miss the last crawl of the year.

It’s this weekend, y’all! September 25,26, and 27. The 2nd Annual Street Art Festival! Mark your calendars and SAVE THE DATE. You are not going to want to miss this! A kid friendly event with fun for the whole family! Entertainment, Vendors, and of course, beautiful chalk murals painting the parking lot at Courthouse Square! Come early to see the artists sketch out their paintings, then come back later to see them coming to life. Or come and make your own statement on the pavement♥️ Then be sure to come back Sunday to see the completed works of art and the judging! Like watching a Polaroid develop in slow time!! This event is free to the public, and all proceeds go to uplifting our unsheltered Neighbors.

Friday 5pm-9pm Registration, check-in, site selection, site prep and sketching begins.

Saturday 8am-9pm ongoing registration and check in, chalk paintings begin! Music, entertainment, food, arts & crafts, free doodle space for kids and kids at heart and more - fun for the whole family!

Sunday 8am-2pm Artists complete their masterpieces! Judging at 1pm, awards and pictures at 2! Come out and get your own pictures of Courthouse Square painted!
