Delores Fortuna lives and works as a studio potter in rural northern Wisconsin creating one-of-a-kind functional pots. Her work reflects an ongoing search to unite her observations of prairie, rocks and clouds with the intimacy a functional pot offers. “My work is primarily made on the potters wheel using porcelain clay with surface gestural marks and fired to 2400F in a gas reduction kiln, hopefully delighting both the eye and hand.

Simon Levin has been working in clay since 1990 when an elective ceramics course changed the arc of his life. Simon is a full-time studio potter known for his expertise with wood firing. An MFA recipient from the University of Iowa, Simon exhibits, teaches, builds kilns, and is published internationally. In 2013 he was a Senior Fulbright Scholar in Taiwan. Between 2004 and today his apprenticeship program has trained 27 potters. He hosts a video series on the Ceramics Arts Network, bringing dialogue to process. Formerly Director at Large for the National Council for Education of the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), and the founder of Cohorts.Art (an innovative craft mentorship program) Simon seeks to advance the frontiers of clay, and evangelize for this empowering material.

10 Korean Ceramic Arts Association members arrived in preparation for the Korean Ceramics Festival

They demonstrated the double-walled piercing-Ttugak, Onggi-techniques, giant (but for him, small) bowl, faceted forms, pinched pot pots and surface painting, textured surface on thrown forms, closed forms, burnishing, moon jars and sculptural forms using slabs and plaster forms.

We head to for the Korean Ceramics Festival, May 29-31.

General admission ticket is just $95 for live demonstration by 6 presenting artists and see 9 artists at work throughout the weekend.

To participate in the Saggar Firing on Friday night, you will need to purchase the general admission tickets plus $50 Saggar firing registration. You will need to arrive at 6pm to participate in the loading. All materials provided.

It’s been three days since arriving in Anhui for “Spring in the Ceramics Wilderness” ICAA International Symposium. Shiyao International Art Village, Xuancheng City, Anhui, China

There are about 20+ international artists of which I am the only one representing US. I don’t know that I’m the best representation but I will try my best.

The video shows the pieces I completed on my second day. It’s been very humid so wares are not drying very fast. Some clay body dries better than others.

Super groggy clay with stoneware “splashes”. I wanted to work with the local clay and highlight its characteristics.

WiFi connectivity is a bit slow.
So no music.
