𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐭 𝐒𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐝, composed of multi-instrumentalist siblings Anissa, Sophia, and Anneli Burnett from Boone, N.C., and Geary Allen from Minster, England, has shared traditional music across the U.S., Ireland, England, and Canada for more than thirteen years. With a repertoire that pulls from bluegrass and old-time, swing, folk, and country, this Billboard-charting band showcases an authenticity and feeling of genuine expression rarely matched in today’s traditional music.

𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬, a “leading light of the New York bluegrass scene” (The New York Times) is Grammy-nominated for his work with Chris Thile and has collaborated with luminaries including Tony Trischka, Andy Statman, Bruce Molsky, and Peter Rowan. 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐛 𝐉𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐟, one of the country’s most notable contemporary mandolinists, has toured with Béla Fleck, Yonder Mountain String Band, and his own quartet. The duo celebrates the release of their new album, We Like Jim & Jesse!, a tribute to bluegrass innovators Jim & Jesse and the Virginia Boys.

The Blue Ridge Music Center trails don’t maintain themselves. It's our amazing volunteers who make the difference! 🌲🥾

We wanted to take a moment to highlight one of our wonderful volunteers and all trail-maintenance volunteers here at the Blue Ridge Music Center. If you did not know, we offer two Music Center hiking trails: the High Meadow Trail (an easy trail that's good for the whole family) and Fisher Peak Loop Trail (moderate difficulty).

Aubrey Arrington, the Volunteers-in-Parks lead for our area, graciously volunteers to help keep our trails open so that guests can enjoy the beautiful scenery. He clips new trail growth, removes fallen trees with a chainsaw, and digs new water drains that allow the trails to be open for hikers looking to get out and breathe in the mountain air on one of our trails.

Aubrey is always willing to lead student groups from Radford University and the University of Notre Dame to help maintain our trails, and keeps a very full volunteer schedule. He is amazing! Please help us thank Aubrey Arrington and the many volunteers who help make our trails here at the Blue Ridge Music Center a beautiful place to visit. 💙

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰 is a weekly, live radio program airing on 88.5 WFDD that blends the fabric of the national roots and Americana scene with the rich artistry and history of the N.C. Piedmont region. Helmed by Martha Bassett, one of the state’s most distinguished musicians, this live taping features special guests collaborating in song and conversation with Bassett and her band.

𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 has been a mainstay in the old-time, folk, and dance community for more than 50 years. A founding member of the famed Green Grass Cloggers, he is one of few Black Americans preserving and playing Appalachian old-time string band music. Known for his extensive repertoire of tunes and heartfelt style, he currently leads the 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝.

𝐌𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐡𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥 has deep roots in Western N.C.. Born in the foothills and coming from a long line of mountain folk, she draws on a long-forgotten modal sound. Her current project, Revenant, pays tribute to her ballad-singing ancestors and celebrates Appalachian heritage.

The first Milepost Music concert of the 2026 season was a great success!

The concert was performed by Scott Ainslie at Mabry Mill photographed below. Steeped in traditional music, Scott Ainslie is a renowned acoustic blues guitarist, singer and songwriter. Catch us back at Mabry Mill two weekends from now to watch Jesse Smathers.

Milepost Music sessions are free Sunday afternoon music performances from 2 to 4 p.m., featuring local and regional traditional musicians and are hosted at popular locations along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Additional performances are offered at The Bluffs Restaurant at Doughton Park in Laurel Springs, N.C. and Peaks of Otter near Bedford, Va.
