Vega Music and Entertainment is one of the DC area's only talent development and placement companies! We pride ourselves in employing only regularly gigging professional musicians who play by ear and feel, but are also classically trained and teach and guide accordingly. This ensures the transition from pupil to performer will be as comprehensive, smooth and natural as possible. This also insures
all of the proven benefits of studying and performing music are simultaneously realized: From the simple confidence boost of being able to unapologetically express yourself, to learning to read and understand music theory, along with cognition and enhancements to other brain functions proven to come from studying music. Music is a very complicated and dynamic art form. It is both a discipline and arguably the most universal form of conveying human emotion and self-expression. More specifically, music can be read and played by following notation, but can also be played "by ear" or feel, using limited notation (lyric/chords, lead sheet) or no music notation at all. Often educators and instructors alike will choose one approach over the other neglecting and thus missing all the benefits of the other approach. I believe this is due to a lack of training, experimentation, and/or a close-minded approach because of their own personal comfort zone. Also, many of the nations most accredited universities do very little to nothing to address the free or "jazz" form of music. So often you are stuck with an instructor who is very thorough at 500 year old music, but can't/won't play a single Beatles tune or contrarily, a "jammer" who ONLY plays The Beatles by ear/feel but can't read notation. In some cases this one-track mind is a result of a lack of discipline and work ethic on their own part. A musician/instructor unwilling to grow themselves and continue to learn will also be limited in his ability to teach. We promise that that each of our instructors teach each student the (classical) fundamentals of music while also helping them express themselves on their instruments with "feel" and emotion, that they may find their voice and share it with the world!
