A Month Ago: Black History Festival 2025
Day 3 Highlights (The Black History Makers Awards)

March 29, 2025 – College Park, Georgia – The Black History Makers Awards, held during the closing ceremony of the Black History Festival 2025, honored some of the most influential leaders and organizations championing the cause of African advancement, equity, and empowerment across the globe. The highly anticipated event took place at the The GICC - Georgia Int'l Convention Centerr (GICC), celebrating excellence in leadership, civic engagement, and diaspora collaboration.
The Lifetime Achievement Awards recognized distinguished U.S. lawmakers and community leaders who have significantly impacted policy, inclusion, and service. Honorees included:
• Rep. Kim Schofield
• Rep. Gabe Okoye Political
• Rep. Segun Adeyina
• Councilman Roderick Gay, Ward IV, City of City of College Park Government
In recognition of global diplomacy and engagement, the International Affairs Award was presented to:
• Mayor Khalid Kamau, Mayor of City of South Fulton, Georgia
In addition to individual honorees, the event acknowledged key organizational partners that played instrumental roles in the festival's success. Honored institutions included:

The evening’s highlight was the presentation of the prestigious Star Prize of the Black History Makers Awards, the highest distinction of the night. This coveted award was bestowed upon three global icons for their leadership and lifelong service to the Pan-African cause:

• Mattie McFadden-Lawson, Civil Leader & Board Member, Morehouse College
• H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana
the awards were presented by the Jamelle McKenzie 4 College Park, Mayor Pro Tem of College Park, Kofi Okyere-Darko, the Director of Diaspora Affairs Office of the President, Ghana, The Minister of Abla Dzifa Gomashie Ministry of Tourism, Arts And Culture and the ceremony capped a powerful week of networking, dialogue, and cultural celebration, underscoring the theme of the festival.

Day 2 Highlights (The Black History Summit and Expo)

The Black History Summit and Expo, held at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park, Georgia, served as the intellectual and strategic heartbeat of the weeklong celebration. Bringing together powerful voices from government, business, academia, and civil society, the Summit was a platform for bold ideas, policy dialogue, and cross-continental collaboration.

At the core of the Summit were timely conversations centered on themes essential to Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora’s global advancement. Key topics included:
• Diaspora Engagement & Economic Empowerment – Strengthening African and Caribbean economic ties to drive inclusive prosperity.
• Cultural Diplomacy – Showcasing heritage, arts, and tourism as tools for influence and soft power.
• Trade & Investment – Exploring emerging markets and unlocking bilateral business opportunities across Africa, the Caribbean, and the U.S.
• Sustainable Development & Innovation – Focusing on infrastructure, climate-smart investments, and entrepreneurial innovation.
• Dual Citizenship & Repatriation – Discussing practical frameworks for easing diaspora return, residency, and citizenship pathways.

A diverse and distinguished group of leaders graced the platform, offering visionary insights and inspiring commitment to long-term action. Key speakers and dignitaries from the USA, Ghana, Panama, Jamaica, Nigeria, Liberia, South Africa and other nations.

The Summit not only created space for in-depth dialogue but also laid the foundation for collaborative policies, economic partnerships, and tangible diaspora initiatives. As one of the highlights of the Black History Festival, it reflected the event’s powerful theme:
“Bridging Continents, Celebrating Legacies, and Promoting Trade.”

On March 27th 2025, the Black History Festival 2025 officially opened with a powerful Networking Welcome Event at the GICC Enclave in College Park, Georgia — setting the tone for a week of cultural celebration, strategic dialogue, and global connection.

The evening brought together distinguished guests, high-ranking officials, business leaders, creatives, and entrepreneurs from Africa, the Caribbean, and the United States. From the moment guests arrived at the Atlanta Airport Gateway and stepped into the vibrant GICC Enclave, the atmosphere was filled with energy, inspiration, and opportunity.

This exclusive reception was more than just a meet-and-greet — it marked the beginning of strategic partnerships, diaspora engagement, and shared legacy building. I attendance was some notable personalities such as
