Hi Everyone,
Sets at Sunset was created back in 2017 out of an absence of house and techno shows and festivals here in Atlanta; to showcase amazing local and international artists at a fantastic waterfront location. It was meant to become a larger reach into all genre communities and present exceptional artists that normally wouldn't get the limelight. We started with a small team, a dock, a warm summer day, and an idea not knowing what the results would be. Turns out, people wanted that type of thing. Over the course of 2 years, we grew the event out to around 1,000 people and brought a few headliners from Miami and other parts of the globe.
After successfully throwing a couple of festivals, our goal for more house/techno representation seemed to have worked. Some of the bigger promotion companies picked up on the trend and ran with it. There is a bigger dance community than ever before. Over 6 venues are dedicated to producing dance music events and over 20 events are on any given weekend! That is huge.
Even better, house and techno now have their place in Atlanta, Imagine festival has its own dedicated house/techno stage, Wish lounge brings on house headliners from time to time. Liquified & District & Ravine have some of the best house bookings this city has seen in a while. Trance artists are getting Tabernacle appearances. Even Carl Cox is coming in a few months!
The underground scene is doing just as well. Wildpitch brings in headliners from time to time, Bobi K and Alley Cat continue to bring in grade A talent and rock their shows. Music Room's sound selection is awesome. Kai and Stan do shows from time to time which are great. Subtle and Southern Exposure continue to rock it like they always do.
We are proud to have helped that movement grow in Atlanta. However, like all good sunsets, they finally set. That being said, I am indefinitely announcing the closing of Sets at Sunset. Sets at Sunset served its purpose, we brought attention to a genre that needed its own space and created a vibe like no other. With so many events in Atlanta now, there is no reason to continue; there is nothing to prove.
If you rolled over a ticket into 2020, seems I can't refund them through eventbrite anymore, so please email me at [email protected] and I'll pull up your order and refund you.
Will we bring it back? Maybe at a later date, but for now, the entire team is focusing on other projects. I’m getting traction with my livestream broadcast company Film Quality Services and working in esports and DJ from time to time. Oscar and Thea are working heavily on their own brand with Wildpitch. Jordan’s flying planes and focusing on furthering his piloting, Valerie is killing it with her career and finding peace. Melissa’s working on winning Tennis championships. Foz is working startups and developing artists. Chris is focusing on his family. It’s funny how the universe tells you to move on.
I want to thank all of you that have supported Sets at Sunset over the years, from the venue, to the city of Gainesville, to the patrons. It would not have been possible without you, and because of you, the scene is bigger than it’s ever been. If you see us around, come say hi or come support our other projects. We would love nothing better than to talk to you.
Thanks for everything, and hopefully we will dance at another Sunset soon.
With Love,
Cody Chesneau (Owner of Sets at Sunset)
