Legends of the Highway is the inspiring story of the 26 Highwaymen, Black artists who found success on their own terms in 1950s Florida. A determined group of Black artists, including a pioneering woman, navigate segregation while creating stunning landscape paintings and forging their own path to artistic recognition. The Highwaymen were self-taught artists and refused to be denied. Currently, an exhibition on display at the Harn Museum of Art titled Florida in the Frame: A Century of Artists’ Reflections on the Sunshine State showcases the works of Florida Highwaymen painters Johnny Daniels and Harold Newton. The exhibition runs April 10 – July 26, 2026.

The HippCinema is thrilled to welcome back David DiDonata performing a live musical soundtrack to the German expressionist science fiction film, Fritz Lang's Metropolis. The silent film was made in 1927 and is approaching it's 100 year anniversary. The film is set in the year 2026. In a futuristic city sharply divided between the working class and the city planners, the son of the city's mastermind falls in love with a working-class prophet who predicts the coming of a savior to mediate their differences.
