Last night, I tried something new—my first improv class!

Children have a way of asking Santa questions he never saw coming, so I thought this might help me think a little quicker on my feet. I’ve never taken an acting class, and the last time I was in a play was in high school, more than 42 years ago. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect!

There were about 15 of us, with a wide range of ages and life experiences. It was a new and different experience for me, and a whole lot of fun.

I’m looking forward to the next several weeks of class. I suspect the children will still manage to stump me now and then—but that’s part of the fun, too!

A very special thank-you also goes to Santa Stuart for allowing his boys to “crash” one of my sessions. What began as a little unexpected fun became one of the most genuine and memorable experiences of the day—and a moment I will always treasure.

And finally, thank you to the 25 friends and family who helped me narrow 41 wonderful photographs down to the final 12. It was an incredibly difficult decision, and your thoughtful opinions helped me more than you may realize.

I feel truly blessed by everyone who contributed to this experience. These photographs may feature Santa Tom, but the joy behind them belongs to many very special people.

Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, but around here it also means Christmas isn't as far off as it seems.

Believe it or not, now is a good time to start thinking about family Christmas photos. I'll be joining Aaron and Alexa at A&A Visions Photography for Christmas mini sessions in late October and early November.

Scheduling early gives you plenty of time to have your favorite photos ready for cards and gifts before December gets busy. There's something nice about having that one thing settled before the season picks up.
