OCTOBER SPOTLIGHT: SHHS STUDENT SELECTED FOR NATIONAL FFA BAND
For SHHS junior Felix Salvatierra, music is built on growth, discipline, and belonging. His selection for the National FFA Band marks a major milestone in a journey fueled by continuous effort, including challenging himself to learn the French Horn during his sophomore year.
"When people hear my work, I want them to know that you don't get good at something from being 'naturally talented,'" Felix says. "You have to work for whatever you want, and you will be rewarded for your efforts."
That daily commitment to practice built a foundation of discipline that carries into his non-arts classes. Beyond technical skill, music provided a supportive community. Moving between schools, Felix found that the arts were a constant source of connection that helped him overcome shyness and build confidence.
"Art is my way of finding community, pushing myself, and meeting others who will push me to be the best version of myself," he shares. For younger students hesitant to join, his advice is simple: "Push yourself and try... there is always a community for them, no matter where they go."
Please Join us in Celebrating Felix Salvatierra on his incredible accomplishment!
