Quick update: this is my second round, and the likelihood is strong I’ll be converted to a CMC arthroplasty for surgery #2 scheduled for Tuesday. If you’ve been through recovery from that, I’d love to hear your direct experience—what helped, what surprised you. And as always, continued thoughts and prayers mean a lot. Thank you for being in my corner.

Well… this wasn’t the update I was hoping to share. 💔

After everything I’ve been through with my thumb, I got some really disappointing news. The implant isn’t positioned the way it needs to be, which means it will have to be removed, and I’ll be going back in for a traditional CMC arthroplasty.

Definitely not what I wanted to hear. Another surgery, another recovery, and another unexpected chapter in this journey.

I’m frustrated. I’m disappointed. And honestly, I’m still wrapping my head around having to start the healing process all over again.
But… one step at a time. ❤️‍🩹

The squish factor is REAL. 😂💜
I mean… LOOK AT HIM! 🥹
Figment is soft, plushy, cuddly, and I’m completely in love with how he turned out.
✨ Pattern release planned for November! ✨
I’m still working through the final pattern details and refinements, although hand surgery means I’ll have to take it a little easier for a bit. Slow and steady, because I want this pattern to be just right before I send Figment out into the crochet world. 💜🧶
Who else wants to make their own little Figment? 👀

A little recovery update 💚
I think I overdid it a little yesterday. Nothing I wasn’t supposed to be doing, but apparently all those little movements add up, and I probably used my thumb more than I realized. I definitely paid for it last night.
So today I’m listening to my body and taking it easy. Tomorrow is my first day back at work, and since I work on a computer, I want to give my hand the best chance possible.
We’ll see how it goes!

Well… we have a crochet fail. 😂🧶

One of the things I’ve been working on while recovering is my dragon pattern. I’ve started making him in alternate colors for the pattern photos, and I’ve finally gotten the body almost exactly where I want it.

So naturally, I grabbed the head I’d already made and went to attach it…

Ummm. NO. 😂😂😂

That poor little head is WAY too small for that body!

I actually really like the shape of the head, so I don’t want to change that. But the proportions? Yeah… those are hilariously wrong. 🤣

Back to the hook to make him a bigger head!
Pattern designing is definitely a whole lot of make it, stare at it, laugh at it, frog it, and try again. 🧶💜

You knew I wasn’t going to stay away from my crochet for long! 😂🧶

Recovery is going superbly! I’m still a little tired and out of it, but I’m feeling really good about how things are progressing.

I’ve even managed to crochet using my four fingers while keeping my thumb out of the action. So far, I’m not having any excessive repercussions from it, which makes me very happy!

Now I’m just hoping for continued progress and REALLY looking forward to the day I can get all this bulky stuff off my wrist! 💕🤞

When crafting meets problem solving…

As many of you know, I’m currently healing and trying to find ways to keep crocheting without putting extra strain on my thumb.

Today I’m experimenting with crocheting using my other fingers for tension and control instead of relying on my thumb as much as I normally would.

I have no idea yet if this is brilliant, terrible, or somewhere in between, but I’m determined to keep creating while I heal.

Has anyone else had to adapt their crochet technique because of an injury, arthritis, surgery, or hand pain?

I’d love to hear what worked, what didn’t, and whether it caused any new issues down the road.

I’m documenting the process while working on a new dragon pattern, and every day feels like a little experiment!
