*~*The Better Half - Lakeville, MN*~*

(*Rating - 7๐Ÿฆž 's out of 10)

Today we had breakfast at The Better Half in Lakeville, Minnesota!!

Shortly after we walked in, a woman arrived & welcomed us. She informed us that there was a wait - to which we asked if we could sit at the bar to spend it up...so, that's what we did!! She was friendly & efficient!!

We found 2 seats at the bar & scoured the area for menus as we waited. After looking over the menu, the bartender came over & took our order. She was pleasant & efficient - with a slight glimpse of a sense of humor...didn't catch her name though.

The atmosphere was very modern & spunky. It was clean & very black, metal & teal accents...I kinda dig it!!

They offer a decent brunch menu - offering your basic essentials - eggs, potatoes, meat, omelettes, pancakes, sandwiches, yada, yada, yada!! There were a few unique things, like the Lobster Benedict...over all it wasn't very big, but exciting just the same.

We decided to each have a coffee with Bailey's...the liquor pour was light in them, but the whip cream made up for the lack of Bailey's.

As far as breakfast goes, we decided to order 1 savory dish & 1 sweet. We chose the *insert cutesy name I cannot remember* French Toast & the Lobster Benedict.

The Lobster Benedict was ok...we ordered cheesy hash browns with it - which were similar to Cracker Barrels hash brown casserole. There wasn't an overabundance of lobster, but what was in there was good & not fishy. The problem was that there was so little it was hard to taste it - well, that & the eggs were over cooked...they were more of a soft boil than poached. It was also lukewarm when it came out...which put a damper on it.

The French Toast was exactly that - French Toast...nothing spectacular. It was good & filled us up. It came with 2 strips of bacon - which were cooked hard, like I like...so, that was a plus!! The French Toast didn't come with butter - which was disappointing & I was too hungry to care to order some & wait for it.

Mike did a bathroom check - he said the restrooms were VERY clean & decorated in the same modern fashion as the rest of the place.

Our bill was $53.47 - ๐Ÿ˜ณ - but actually, we DID have that 1/2 shot of Bailey's in our coffee...sooo ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Overall, we would probably wouldn't return...for no real reason other than it was spendy for average breakfast. Nothing REALLY stood out to make us want to come back, I guess.

*SIDE NOTE* After breakfast, we stopped at a little ice cream shop that shared the parking lot with The Better Half. We both agree that we WOULD go back to the Dairy Delite again...that treat hit the spot!!

(*Rating - 9.5 ๐Ÿฅž 's out of 10)

Today we had breakfast at the Whistle Stop Cafe in Frontenac, Minnesota!!

When walked in, we stood by the door - as it was not real clear if we needed to wait or seat ourselves. A woman finally welcomed us from a far & told us to sit anywhere we liked.

This is in a small town - everyone knows everyone...so, we were stared at as we scored the place for a table.

Once we found a table & got settled, a woman named Jody approached us with a smile. She brought us menus, told us the specials, & brought drinks quickly. She was pleasant & efficient...with a great sense of humor!!

The atmosphere was very mom & pop cafe!! It was comfortably cramped with outdated homey decor - yet very clean & comfortable. I kinda dig the vibe, personally.

Decent sized menu & well priced. They offered lunch & breakfast all day - your basic essentials - eggs, potatoes, meat, omelettes, pancakes, sandwiches, small dinners, yada, yada, yada!!

Mike had the Veggies Omelette - comes with toast...he ordered the cinnamon raisin toast. He also added hashbrowns. He said took a little while - but well worth the wait. The raisin toast was delicious.

I ordered 2 eggs overeasy, bacon, hashbrowns, & toast - I ordered the Texas toast. Mine was great. The eggs were a little over cooked & my hashbrowns were crispy - which I'm not a fan of, but I know many are...so, that's more of a preference thing, I think. The bacon was awesome - cooked perfectly, for me anyhow!! I was happy overall!!

Mom had 2 over medium eggs, American fries, & white toast. She said the eggs were done perfectly - which is rare for over medium. The toast was buttered evenly. She enjoyed it.

Eli ordered the Ham & Cheese Omelette with American fries & white toast. He said the omlette was perfect size & delicious. He was happy.

We ordered 1 Pancake to share. We all agreed the pancake was excellent!! Sweet with a touch of vanilla...would definitely order that again!!

Mike ordered coffee which he said was decent. Eli had a large milk (*which they can't screw up, I guess) & Mom & I had water.

Mike did a bathroom check - he said there are 2 unisex bathrooms. They were dated, but clean.

One nice touch they had was every table had a hand sanitizer bottle on it!! Perfect for wanting to wash your hands without needing to go to the restroom to do so!!

Our bill was $54.76 - which is only roughly $15 a piece with the tip...not too shabby, really.

Overall, we would all come back...& probably will!!

*~*Perk Up Kitchen - Bloomington, MN*~*

(*Rating - 5 ๐ŸŒ 's out of 10)

Today we had breakfast at Perk Up Kitchen in Bloomington, Minnesota!!

When walked in, we stood by the door - as it was not real clear where to wait for the hostess. Finally, a young lady approached us, told us there was a 10-15 minute, & took our info. She was pleasant & efficient!!

The atmosphere was very vintage farmhouse meets grandma!! It was wide open - yet cramped at the same time. Clean & comfortable - though, I imagine due to space, the tables were VERY close to each other...felt like we were having breakfast with people we didn't know.

A young man approached our table & introduced himself as Parker. He was clean, efficient, & friendly. I actually really like Parker - he made the experience a little less painful. He knows his job & does it well. He took our order immediately, raced around delivering food for other servers, & even checked back after our food arrived - all with a smile on his face!! He makes this place great!!

Decent sized menu...but...overpriced. The menu like to throw in LOTS of unnecessary ingredients - I suppose to allow the pricing. Personally, the usage of vinaigrette on wverything was a bit much for me...but - I'm nowhere near fancy.

Mike had the Classic Breakfast - 2 eggs, potatoes, bacon (*which he gave to me), & toast. He said the eggs were cooked fine. He said the potatoes were ok, but he didn't like how small they were cut. Mike said the Impossible Sausage was horrible...it was microwaved & should have been fried.

I ordered 2 eggs overeasy, Impossible Sausage (*which I gave to Mike), & potatoes. My eggs were over medium...I ate them anyhow. The potatoes had lots of spices on them...not hot, but there was a certain spice I was not a huge fan of. I also did not like that an order of toast was only 1 piece - an order is normally 2 slices...just sayin'!!

We ordered 1 piece of the Go Bananas French Toast...& it did not disappoint - it was just as the menu described. Needless to say, we finished that quickly.

We also ordered an additional slice of toast & the homemade raspberry jam & the homemade strawberry jam. Both were good...but the raspberry was the better of the 2.

We both had coffee...which was SUPER strong!! Thank God they added a carafe of water on the table - cause we both watered down our cups. I have NEVER in life used that much sweetener in my coffee...usually, I only add 1/2 a packet. I imagine Parker thinks I'm insane for all the empty packets...but hey - it was like drinking a motor oil espresso!! Parker was kind enough to offer us to-go cups after breakfast - which was appreciated!!

Mike did a bathroom check - there are 2 unisex bathrooms. He said they were clean & spacious.

The prices are a little steep...ok, they are a lotta steep!! Don't get me wrong, the selection was great - but again, LOTS of needless ingredients to allow this kind of pricing. Our bill for 2 breakfasts & 2 coffees - $56.11...$69.00 with a tip. That's almost $35 person person for breakfast...let THAT sink in!!

Overall, if we were invited for whatever reason by family or friends - we would first attempt to steer clear...but would be willing to come back. The only way we would come back on our own willingness is to have the Go Bananas again - but more than likely, we would have coffee at home first & split it!!

Today we had breakfast at YoYo Donuts in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota!!

When walked in, we were greet with a cheerful "Welcome!!" by all young man behind the counter. He was wearing a stocking cap that read "Neat Dude"...we chuckled about it with him. He was really friendly & definitely helpful. He knows his job & he does it well!!

The atmosphere was very shabby chic - comfortable & cozy with a touch of snazzy!! We both really liked it...the only thing we felt it was missing was music - it was pretty quiet in there!!

Decent sized donut selection (*considering we got there later in the morning) & very enticing one, for sure!! There are several things I'm planning on coming back to try - as it was hard to decide.

We ordered 3 donuts, a lady finger thingy, a black coffee & an Irish cream latte with oat milk.

Mike had the Angel Kiss Donut - which was a donut covered in chocolate frosting & topped with whipped cream. Mike says visually it was attractive, but overall - it was a basic donut...something he wouldn't go out of his way for & feels like he could find at Holiday across the street for cheaper.

I had the Cremรฉ Brulee Donut - which had Carmel frosting & custard on top that had been caramelized. I enjoyed it. I think the Carmel frosting caught me off guard though - not because it was Carmel (*I expected that), but it was such a strong Carmel taste that it over powered the rest of it.

Mike said the light roast black coffee was good.

My Irish cream oat milk latte was good...I enjoyed it.

The other donut - a Sugared Blueberry - & the Lady Finger thingy we saved for later...I'll keep you posted about those.

Mike did a bathroom check - they were clean. There are 2 unisex, single person bathrooms. Mike said it was odd that there weren't any mirrors in them.

The prices are a little steep for donuts - for a large flavored latte, a large black coffee, 3 donuts & that lady finger thingy, our bill total was $20.30. I guess considering the coffees may have been close to that at Caribou or Starbucks - maybe it isn't too bad?!?!

Overall, we agree - we would definitely come back!! Besides being really close to our house & decent coffee - who doesn't like donuts?!?! But I think the staff alone would get us to come back!!

Today we had breakfast at Ichigo Tokyo Crepes in South Minneapolis, Minnesota!!

When walked in, we were greet with a cheerful "Hello!!" by all 3 of the women working.

The atmosphere was very comfortable casual...but small. We were lucky to grab a table. This place is also connected to another place (*Ramen Kazama) - which they share a bathroom with. It's in an old building...which Mike really liked.

Not a huge menu - but a very enticing one, for sure!! There are several things I'm planning on coming back to try - as it was hard to decide.

You order at a counter - then pick a table & wait. A lady took our order. She had a pleasant disposition & a smile to match. She was efficient & good at her job!!

We ordered our coffees first - Mike had a black drip coffee & I had a brown sugar latte...both were fantastic!!

We ordered a savory crepe & a sweet Japanese pancake.

The crepe came first. We ordered The Sunrise - toasted egg, cheese, potato stix, & mayo. It originally came with a choice of ham or turkey, lettuce, & a spicy mayo...but we changed it around a bit.

Mike said the crepe was good...though he would have liked to have tried the spicy mayo.

I thought the crepe was SOOOOOO good!! Lots of cheese & the potato stix added just the right amount of crunch needed!!

Then the sweet pancakes came. We ordered the Cremรฉ Brulee Pancakes - 3 fluffy Japanese pancakes with raspberry compote, whip cream, & then there is custard on top that had been caramelized.

Mike said the pancakes were really good. He was concerned that they might be mushy in the middle - but they weren't. He thought they tasted like a dessert.

I, personally, cannot wait until I can come back & try another flavor!! I thought they were amazing - everything I thought they be...fluffy, sweet, & decadent.

I did a bathroom check - it was semi-clean. There are 2 unisex, single person bathrooms - which again they share with the Ramen place next door.

The prices are average - for 2 lattes & both items, our bill total was $39.21...not too shabby, especially because I think we got our value in just the experience of trying something new.

Overall, we agree - we would definitely come back!! The experience was great, the coffees were fantastic, & the food was delicious!!

(*Rating - 7.5 ๐Ÿง‹'s out of 10)

Today we had breakfast at Vanilla Bean Restaurant in Two Harbors, Minnesota!!

When walked in, we were greet by a cheerful young lady with a big smile!! She informed us that there was a 20-25 minute wait & took our name & number. The waiting area is very small, but we found a bench near the hostess desk. I did hear the hostess telling people to wait in their cars - but due to my foot issues, we sat inside & waited.

While waiting, we noticed a specialty coffee menu...I set my eyes on a Salted Caramel Latte & Mike was interested in the Berry White Mocha.

The atmosphere was very "Up North" - wilderness pictures on the wall, basic dark green paint on the walls etc.. It was pleasantly orchestrated & comfortable. We were sat in a smaller side room, next to a fireplace...which, even though a fire wasn't going - the fireplace definitely created a cozy feel.

Decent menu - breakfast & lunch...their schtick is brunch being served all day!! Actually, for how small of a place it is, the menu is pretty big...LOTS to choose from!!

A lady approached our table & took our latte order. She didn't offer her name or have a name tag on - though I did her mention that her name was Allie to another table. She was to the point - she wanted our order, to bring the food, & get us out...all while keeping a pleasant disposition. She was efficient & good at her job!!

We ordered our lattes & which I switched mine to the Salted Caramel Toffee Latte & I added brown butter syrup. HOLY JESUS...was that FANTASTIC!!

Our food came super quick...which is always a plus in my mind.

Mike had the Breakfast Burrito - which had potatoes, black beans, corn salsa, peppers, mushrooms, onion, & cheese. It was served with a small fresh fruit cup. He said it was very good...though he thought the fruit cup was underwhelming. He topped it with Sriracha - which he says make it perfect!!

I ordered a cup of the Wild Rice Porridge - which had cranberries, blackberries, & pecans in milk steamed wild rice. It was served with cranberry toast. I also ordered a Crepe on the side. The porridge was really good...though a cup was perfect - a bowl would have been too much & sickening. The house toast - the cranberry toast - was also really enjoyable!! It has wild rice in it...made for a perfect taste. The crepe was nothing fancy - just your basic crepe. It was topped with a berry compote & of course, I melted butter on it, too.

Mike did a bathroom check - he said it was very clean!! He said there are 2 unisex, single person bathrooms.

The prices are average - for 2 lattes & both our meals, our bill total was $39.02...not too shabby, especially because I think we got iur value in just the insane amount of whipped cream on the lattes alone.

Overall, we agree - if we found ourselves in the area again, we would come back!! The experience was great, the lattes were amazing, & the food was delicious!!

Overall Rating: 7.5 ๐Ÿง‹'s out of 10!!

Mike: ๐Ÿง‹๐Ÿง‹๐Ÿง‹๐Ÿง‹๐Ÿง‹๐Ÿง‹๐Ÿง‹

(*Rating - 7 ๐Ÿฅฎ's out of 10)

Today we had breakfast at Tobie's Restaurant & Bakery in Hinckley, Minnesota!!

We walked into a Cracker Barrel kinda feel general store. Lots of fun things to look at - though we had our sights set on some breakfast!!

We were sat immediately by a server who had a name tag on & I *think* it said Amy. She was friendly & greeting us with a big "Hello!!"...I like her.

The atmosphere, honestly, has a Golden Girls vibe - not gonna lie. VERY 80's - painted metal chairs, striped canopies, fake floral arrangements, staged street lamps, vintage looking sconces, etc. & I actually don't mind it at all...I'm seriously kinda here for it!!

Decent menu - breakfast, lunch, & dinner...with breakfast being served all day!! It was a rather large menu - both offering wise & physically...LOTS to choose from.

A lady approached our table with menus & offered us beverages within a minute of sitting down!! I ordered a coffee with Bailey's...cause I'm an adult & Mike had black coffee...wuss!! We also had water served in fancy, 1989's style goblets - FUN!! We both appreciated that she brought a pot of coffee...that's ALWAYS a plus!!

Our server, Lisa, came to take our order. She was pleasant & efficient. She offered Mike the caramel/cinnamon roll upgrade to his meal - which he HAD to do!! She knows her job & does it with a smile on her face & a friendly demeanor.

Mike had the Vegetarian Omelette - which had tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, onion, & cheese & as mentioned, he upgraded to a caramel roll with pecans instead of toast!! He said it was very good - the omelette was decent...though he was disappointed that they used canned mushrooms!! He was also a little sad that the omelette didn't come with hashbrowns...especially for $15.00. Overall, he said he would order it again...but not out of his way - only if he was really hungry!!

I wasn't feeling breakfast - so, ordered the Tempura Cheese Wedges - which was cheese wedges dipped in Tempura batter & deep fried!! It came with a raspberry dipping sauce. The cheese triangles were delicious...definitely different than your average cheese curd.

As far as the famous rolls are concerned...they were ok. Honestly, I suppose considering where this is located - they are probably amazing...& that's not a jab, only a observation as it's a small town. They definitely weren't bad - I mean, we ate most of them...just nothing more than you can find in the Metro. Mike ordered the caramel - I ordered the cinnamon (*yes, with melted cheddar on top - don't you judge me!!) & we agreed that we would probably ordered them again. I preferred the caramel roll & Mike was indecisive & liked both equally.

Mike did a bathroom check - he said it very clean & was actually renovated into the 2000's!!

The prices are average - for 2 coffees & both our meals, our bill total was $44.22...definitely a little spendy. We both agree that for what we ordered, it was over priced. I think many overlook that because they are dazzled with the whole "famous rolls" fiasco.

I will say, this place works like a well oiled wheel!! It's a VERY large place & there is staff EVERYWHERE doing their thing...& well!! All the customers were smiling & so was all the staff. Our food came SUPER fast & we were left not needing anything!!

Overall, we agree - while it's lack luster as far as everything we had heard - we would come back!! The food is decent, but the serving & atmosphere was even better!! Honestly, I think our ratings were mostly based off the atmosphere & service!!

Overall Rating: 7 ๐Ÿฅฎ 's out of 10!!

(*Rating - 7 ๐Ÿณ's out of 10)

Today we had breakfast at J's Family Restaurant in Burnsville in Minnesota!!

As directed by a sign up on entering, we sat ourselves at a booth.

Very old school family owned establishment!! The decor & atmosphere is outdated - though in a charming way. The booths are worn out & slightly uncomfortable - but still serving their purpose.

Decent menu - breakfast, lunch, & dinner...with breakfast being served all day!! There are several daily specials to choose from, as well!!

A young person approached our table with menus & offered us beverages within a minute of sitting down!! We each ordered coffee & water & it was delivered immediately...& even came with flavored creamer!!

Our server came to take our order. She was pleasant, yet efficient - no messing around, just took our order...but in a friendly manner. She did not offer her name.

Mike had the Vegetarian Omelette - which had tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, onion, & cheese... accompanied with hashbrowns & wheat toast!! He also ordered side of Hollandaise sauce. He said it was very good - the omelette was cheesy, the Hollandaise sauce was perfect & he liked that they used fresh mushrooms!! He would order it again!!

I ordered the J's Favorite Omelette - which was a choice of bacon & cheese, ham & cheese, or sausage & cheese...I opted for bacon & Swiss. Like the other breakfast items, there was a choice of hashbrowns or red potatoes - I chose the red potatoes & wheat toast. I also ordered a side of sour cream. I was happy with my omelette. I was a little leary ordering a bacon omelette cause Mike wouldn't be able to eat my leftovers if I couldn't finish it - but this was not an issue as I cleaned it all!! My omelette was cheesy, the bacon was slightly crispy, & the red potatoes were fantastic!! I would definitely order this again!!

Mike did a bathroom check - he said it was very outdated & could be cleaned a little better. He also stated that one stall was being utilized as a storage closet.

The prices are average - for 2 coffees & both our meals, our bill total was $37.07...not TOO bad, but definitely a little spendy.

They were starting to do their end of the day cleaning when while we were there...so, the sounds of a whirling vacuum filled the scene. It wasn't bad, but definitely noticeable. I applaud their cleanliness - but it could have been done maybe after closing to not disrupt diners.

Overall, we agree - we would come back... especially since this is already our 2nd time here!! It's friendly, the food is wonderful, & overall, it's just a great breakfast experience!!

(*Rating - 7.5 ๐Ÿฅช's out of 10)

Today we had breakfast at Magnolia's Restaurant on the Eastside of St Paul in Minnesota!!

We were told to sit anywhere clean when we walked in & we found a comfortable booth by a window.

Very "Mom & Pop", old style, family diner feel!! Very comfy & home-like...totally digging it!!

Decent menu - breakfast, lunch, & dinner...with breakfast being served all day!! Weekly specials & a fish fry every Friday!!

We didn't catch our servers name, but she was a older lady with a very pleasant disposition. She took our drink order - 2 coffees with cream. She brought them back ASAP & they even offered flavored creamer...that's a win in my eyes!!

Mike had the Eye Opener - which was 2 pieces of French toast & 2 over easy eggs. He said his French toast was made with Texas Toast & was excellent!! (*I had a bite & completely confirm this). He says his eggs were cooked perfectly. He was happy with his breakfast!!

I ordered a BLT Combo - which was a BLT that came with soup & chips. The menu stated that having this sandwich on a croissant was an option, but they did not have any when I tried to order it. I ordered the broccoli cheese soup - which came out before my sandwich. It was really thick - almost like a cheese sauce. I thought it was fantastic, but could have been thinned a little!! The sandwich was exactly as expected - lettuce, tomato, & bacon on wheat with mayo... accompanied by chips on the side!! It was fresh & tasted great. I was also happy with my meal.

Mike did a bathroom check & said while it is very dated, it was very clean.

The prices are average - for 2 coffees & both our meals, our bill total was $35.33. Kinda spendy, but definitely good food & lots of it.

They were starting to do their end of the day cleaning when we were finishing up & the cleaning products they were using were bothering my allergies. As much as my face running everywhere is annoying - I appreciate their cleanliness...but maybe hold off cleaning in the eating area till right before closing.

Today we had breakfast at Magnolia's Restaurant in The 4 Queens Casino/Hotel in Las Vegas, NV!!

We were sat immediately by a woman who - wasn't overly friendly, but she was efficient & smiling...she gave us the low-down on the coupon we had

Kind of a tropical motiff, I guess. Lots of plants & ceiling fans everywhere...I kinda dig it. Overall, it was very clean & comfortable!!

Decent menu - breakfast, lunch, & dinner!! A lot of the items sounded really good & it is pretty wide variety on the menu!!

A young lady came over & took our drink order...even asked if we'd like straws with our waters. She brought our coffee right away & remembered to bring cream!!

We didn't catch our servers and, but she was pleasant, friendly, & efficient. Her section was busy, but she kept up just fine - smiling the whole time.

Mike had the Simple Royal - which is his usual...2 over easy eggs, hash rowns, & wheat toast. He said the toast is perfect, the hash rowns could have been cooked a little more, & the eggs were also great. He's happy overall.

I...feeling slightly hungover...had a bowl of Raisin Bran & a big 'ol Bowl of Fruit!! I mean - can they REALLY mess this up?!?! Of course not...it was great & I was happy!!

Overall, we agree - we've been here before & we will always come back....we really like this restaurant!!

The prices are average - for 2 coffees, Mike's breakfast, & my cereal & fruit, our bill total was $34.63. Sounds kinda spendy...however, we had a BOGO coupon & since I have the Players Card, I had a $30 comp - which covered our bill!! So...gotta love that!!

Overall, we agree - we've been here before & we will always come back...we LOVE this place!!

Highly recommend this place...it's a Downtown Old Vegas staple!!
