💜 Magnolias 💜
This is one of my favorite vases from recent firings!
I’m leaning into my love of contour line drawing and enjoy how the purple underglaze shading is slightly softened after firing - which is the result of a LOT of experimentation / trial and error, to find the perfect trifecta of clay body, underglaze & clear glaze!

Compositionally, I love how the branches extend around the vessel, making the impulse to rotate the vase irresistible!
I love magnolias because they’re an early bloomer, and I love the way the petals slowly open, revealing the center stamen.
Annnd my favorite pink magnolias have a delicious ginger taste that’s fun to mix into baking! (Which I learned from plant expert Alexis Nikole 🌾🍀 ! Thanks for expanding my love of magnolias & baking!!!)
