New Bug update!

I cut out the rust cancer in my floors and my son and I welded new floors in and sealed in the seams.

I’m installing my own seats, so I had to cut out the old seat rail humps from the original triple railed seat junk.

Not that those are out, I’m can start masking and painting the floor, then I’ll install the new fuel line next to the transmission tunnel because the old line is clogged. After that we can install the new seats! I can’t wait!

Here’s the current state of my engine— I have replaced the fuel pump and alternator pulley, added a fan belt and I cleaned the plugs. I replaced the old fuel line with new hoses and removed the engine bay fuel filter— I’ll be putting it up front below the gas tank.

What’s next? I’m going to take the gas tank out so I can strain the chunks out of the gas— there’s a good amount of corrosion sediment in the bottom, so that’s got to come out. I have a new alternator to put in, and I’ll have to figure out how to rewire the deleted voltage regulator. I’ll be installing a new starter, new plug wires, new master cylinder, new wheel cylinders, and I’ve got a rebuild kit for my carburetor because it looks like it can be salvaged. I need to check the chassis fuel line too because so far it looks like it may be clogged.

And I still need to patch the floors, get new seats, and a new steering wheel!!!

Tons of new illustrations are gonna be posted to my website this week! These are all for my ongoing project: The Curse of the Blackened Blade, my first illustrated novel. I’ll be going to the next weekend and I’m going to pitch my project to anybody who will listen! 😂 if you want to check these out for your self, along with the rest of the pics for this story, check out my website www.davidjameswillet.com (link in bio) and click on “Blackened Blade” at the top right hand side of the page. I plan on having over 60 illustrations when it’s all finished. So far I’m pretty happy with how they’re coming out!!! Let me know what you think!

update!!! I finally started tearing into the passenger side floor. The had done a pretty gnarly repair job on the battery pan and I had to rip it all out. The first pic is the before… you can see how worn and rusty the floor is. They had also tried to seal the repair with calk of some sort… it was really bad and I had to cut it all out because I think it was just adding to the cancer back there… the metal they used for the repair looked like it was cut from a baking pan. 🤦‍♂️ the next step is to grind/sand/scrape all of the rust from the area before I do my own repairs on it. Should be good as new in no time! (Yah, right). Also, I’ve got a ton of parts on the way— alternator, starter, fuel pump, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, plug wires, and a carb rebuild kit. It almost ran about a week ago, I’m sure we can get it going once I replace these parts.

I finally got another project! I’ve got some work ahead of me here, but it’s a pretty solid start. We’ve almost got it running, but it’s got some electrical and starter gremlins we’re trying to sort out. I’ll post some more pics when I’ve gotten some progress.
