I painted this early Thursday morning when Harrison Street was blocked off to install my gas line. It was so hot and humid that my acrylics didn't dry correctly, which you'll notice from the streaking throughout the painting and the thinness of the paint.

Many thanks to the Frenchtown cops for not moving their SUV and letting me finish! 🚨🎨

Plein Air in Frenchtown: Street Scene with a Limited Palette

Capturing the overcast light and movement of downtown Frenchtown on a Sunday.

My focus was translating a busy street scene using a strictly limited palette. Restricting my color choices forces me to prioritize value, atmosphere, and light over unnecessary detail. Working this way helps me capture the immediate energy of a place without overcomplicating the canvas.

The final painting is shown at the end of the clip.
