CHAPTER ONE • PART 2: HE WAS COMING BACK FOR ME

When I saw my red Mazda coming toward us, I didn’t feel relieved. My heart filled with dread, anger, and fear.

I looked at Nancy, my Uber driver, and said, “Please drive.”

In Part 2 of I Wish I Knew Then What I Know Now, I continue reading the true story of what happened after my husband left me beside Highway 111 in 115-degree heat—and how a complete stranger immediately recognized that something was terribly wrong.

I had loved this man since I was thirteen. I never imagined that the person I trusted, built a family with, and believed loved me could place me in danger.

I’m sharing my lived experience to help others recognize harmful and abusive behavior—even when it comes from someone they love—because I wish I had understood what I know now.

This is extraordinarily difficult for me to share. If you want to support me and help this message reach someone who may need it, please react, comment, or share. Your reaction is not approval of what happened—it is support for my courage in telling the story. ❤️

My husband left me vomiting beside Highway 111 in 115-degree desert heat.

The passenger door flew from my hand as he sped away. What happened next—and why I still went home—took me years to understand.

This is Chapter One, Part 1 of I Wish I Knew Then What I Know Now, my work-in-progress about loving, living with, and ultimately leaving a narcissist. In this series, I’m reading my story exactly as I wrote it and sharing the lessons I wish I had understood sooner.

Narcissistic abuse can condition you to minimize cruelty, search for excuses, and question your own pain. But minimizing or rationalizing abuse does not stop it—it allows the pattern and the harm to continue.

Have you ever looked back and realized that something you minimized was never acceptable?

Today would have marked 14 years of marriage to one of the meanest men on the planet…

Instead of allowing this date to belong only to the marriage I survived, I’m reclaiming it by beginning to tell my story.

I’m writing a book called “I Wish I Knew Then What I Know Now”about loving, living with, and ultimately leaving a narcissist.

I’m sharing my lived experience to help others recognize narcissistic behavior, understand what it can do to the people who love them, and see more clearly what I could not recognize at the time.

This is not about diagnosing someone for an audience. It is about telling the truth about what I experienced and eventually pairing my story with credible information from experts on narcissism and emotional abuse to help myself and others.

If you have ever wondered, “How did I end up here?” or “Why didn’t I leave sooner?”—this series is for you.

Chapter One, Part 1 begins next, with the night I was left beside Highway 111 in 115-degree desert heat.

What I wish I had understood is that minimizing, excusing, or rationalizing narcissistic abuse does not make it less abusive. It leaves the pattern unchallenged, allowing the behavior to continue and the harm to deepen. By naming these behaviors honestly, I hope to help others recognize them sooner than I did.

✈️ California ➜ Scottsdale, Arizona! 🐶📚✨

A few months ago, I was hoping someone would take a chance on a new idea I had dreamed up.

An idea that reading could become something children don't just listen to, but experience.

I dreamed of transforming the reading of my children's book, "The Fun & Furry Tales of Rex: Adoption Day!," from a traditional author visit into an interactive educational enrichment experience that teaches gratitude, intuition, empathy, confidence, kindness, and a lifelong love of reading.

Last week, I had the incredible privilege of flying to Scottsdale, Arizona, to bring my Story Time Paw-Ty™ to Steve & Kate's Camp... and it was AMAZING!

Although this particular group was smaller than I expected, it turned out to be a wonderful gift. I had the opportunity to truly connect with each camper, hear their thoughts, answer their questions, and celebrate each child's unique personality.

Together we read, laughed, danced in bubbles.

We practiced gratitude, intuition, empathy, confidence, and kindness.

And every child officially "adopted" their very own puppy and became a member of Rex's Pack! 🐶❤️

Watching these children light up reminded me why I started this journey in the first place. I truly believe stories have the power to change hearts and ignite minds.

When children don't just hear a story—but step inside it—the lessons stay with them long after the last page is turned.

Thank you to Steve & Kate's Camp for welcoming me all the way from California and for believing in Story Time Paw-Ty™. It was an honor to spend the day with such wonderful campers.

I made it to Scottsdale to bring my Story Time Paw-Ty storytelling bubble dance party program to lucky campers at Steve & Kate's Camp! Check out this beautiful hotel at Hilton Hotels & Resorts! I’m soooo grateful!!!!

I still can’t believe I’m saying this… 🥹🐶✈️

Today I’m packing bubble machines, books, plush puppies, adoption certificates, music, and everything that brings the magic of my Story Time Paw-Ty™ to life…

…because I’m flying to Scottsdale, Arizona! 💗

When I wrote The Fun and Furry Tales of Rex: Adoption Day, I simply hoped my rescue dog’s story would inspire children to be a little kinder, a little braver, and a little more compassionate.

I never imagined it would grow into a social-emotional learning literacy program that’s now being invited to camps in other states.

My heart is so full of gratitude.

To Steve & Kate's Camp and every camp director, educator, parent, child, friend, and supporter who has believed in this dream… thank you. Every opportunity to share Story Time Paw-Ty™ means another chance to help children discover the joy of reading while building empathy, kindness, courage, and confidence.

Scottsdale… here we come! 🐶✨📚

💛 If you’re looking for a unique literacy and social-emotional learning program for your school, camp, library, or community event, I’d love to bring the Story Time Paw-Ty™ to you.

🫧 This little's boy's smile says it all! 🥹💗

My Story Time Paw-Ty™ program isn't just about reading a book.

It's about bringing stories to life through imagination, movement, music, laughter, bubbles... and one very special surprise.

After the story, every child gets to "adopt" their very own plush puppy from "Rex's Adoption Center" to take home as a reminder of the lessons we learned together. Then it's time to celebrate with a Bubble Dance Party! 🐾🫧🎉

Watching children dance, laugh, and happily hold up their newly adopted puppies is one of my favorite parts of the entire experience! Moments like these are exactly why I created Story Time Paw-Ty™. These are definitely core memories for kids to make at their summer camp adventure. 🥰

✈️ Next stop: Scottsdale, Arizona! I can't wait to bring more stories, smiles, puppy adoptions, and bubbles to another amazing group of campers at Steve & Kate's Camp in SCOTTSDALE this week! I am so grateful! 💝
