Genesis of Kori O Komol

Kori O Komol, Inc. is a non-profit corporation formed to operate for educational and charitable purposes. Its ultimate mission is to establish an academy in the Bay area where we can cultivate our Bengali cultural heritage. It is for Bangla speaking community, especially our next generation, who has an interest in promoting, sustaining, and learning the rich Bengali culture. Kori O Komol also aims to engage in philanthropic activities, such as, extending financial support to the legendary musicians who passionately devoted to the services of disseminating Bengali culture.

Established by Nandita Yasmin, an accomplished Tagore singer of international fame, Kori O Komol is being formally launched on 11th November, 2017. Nandita’s initiation to Rabindra Shangeet happened at the tender age of five. Luminaries like Kalim Sharafi, Sadi Mohammad, and Rezwana Chowdhury Banya subsequently groomed her. Nandita has since become a torch bearer devoted to bringing the inner meaning and essence of Tagore’s sublime music closer to her fans.

Nandita relocated to the Bay Area in 2014 and soon became a familiar name in Bengali cultural circle. At the same time, she recognized the yearning of the Bengali community for an avenue to nurture their cultural heritage. In 2016 she founded her music studio Kori O Komol, with a deep desire to provide a platform for the Bangali diaspora to quench their thirst for the music and culture of a land they had left behind years ago.

Past Events

November 11, 2017

A gala cultural event was organized to showcase Kori O Komol’s students’ achievements for the Bay Area Bengali diaspora to enjoy. Everyone, attending this immaculately organized concert, thoroughly enjoyed the cultural program featuring Nandita’s students as well as professional artistes. To make it happen Kori O Komol received generous support through sponsorships from numerous individuals and organizations. This event provided a stepping-stone to reach out to our community for additional patronage.

Upcoming Events

Kori O Komol will be hosting “রবীন্দ্রনাথ-এর গানের শ্রোতার আসর” on December 9th at 4.30 pm at Warm Springs Community Center in Fremont. Details will be posted in the event page shortly.
