Branstrom Raceway Park has come to an end.
Branstrom Raceway Park saw its beginning in spring of 2017. At that time, plans were developed with the City of Fremont to build an RC race track on a small section of Branstrom Park in Fremont.
My name is Mark Schreiber. I designed, built, and maintained Branstrom Raceway Park from the inception.
The City of Fremont gave us use of the land with the stipulation that maintenance of the track was my responsibility.
With support of volunteers, charitable giving, and help from a few local businesses, Branstrom Raceway Park was constructed May-July with an opening day event on July 29, 2017.
The first few years saw some great events and we had some good times.
As life happens, my ability to maintain the track changed. A had a small lawn care and property maintenance company that I sold in 2022. With no longer having the equipment to maintain the track properly, the track declined quite a bit in 2023.
This spring, while planning ways to reclaim and improve Branstrom Raceway Park, it was determined that the needs to reclaim and properly maintain the track are beyond my ability. Outside of my abilities, the track needed substantial improvements including; fill material to raise the track surface, water service, electric service, expanded drain system, a storage shed, bleachers, and more - not to mention weekly lawn care and track grooming.
With these needs and the lack of a committed sponsor or funding, the track had little chance to survive.
The track was dismantled last week and the City will reclaim the area to a field as it was before.
It is sad to see the track go. That said, I will remember the great times that were had there.
I still continue in my interest in RC with weekly workshops and get togethers. You can commonly find me around Fremont at places like Fremont Lake Park, the Fremont Farmers Market Pavilion, and Branstrom Park.
