Ill tell my dj friends my secrets for showing professionalism. My retirement is coming!! Not rentals or benifits!! So read up!!
1. Never use a plastic table and cover!! That exposes wires, you and equipment openings and its tackey.
2. Give choices!! Invest in your business!!
3. So many So called dj"s pop up saying a scratch mixer makes them a dj. It doesnt. Nor does a wrench make me a car mechanic.
4. You do not have to read a crowd at a wedding!! They give me 95% of the songs they want to hear! You just have to fade back and forth..easy.
5. Im doing more rentals now do to overpricing of these $2,000 dj's. Some in Indy $3,500!! I can train anybody how to auto fade. Ill do 22 rentals this year for 24hr $450. And they choose what I bring.
6. Offer pro lighting, not Temu stuff. I put 4 wireless Shure mics on the bridal tables. Headset mic the officiant.
7. Walking on a cloud foggers!! Use them!!! Couples deserve it!!
8. I offer free practices if close enough!
9. Cover more then 1 area!! Be able to cover multiple zones!! Bar area, outdoor entrance music, outdoor battery powered weddings, indoor or outdoor receptions...even total.battery powered receptions..lighting, speakers, mixers..mics..can you?
10. This advice is for the start up guys. Max Mckinley and my other friends are amazing!! They know like I do..invest. They are 5 Star djs!! I loved djing..42yrs and over 2,600 weddings and events. My year is full.
11. Donate to schools!! Give back by playing free for kids. May 21st I play at Ryan Park for 5th grade graduation. Then The Jay County Fair July 4th to Celebrate our 250th Anniversary of freedoms!! Give..give..give!!
12. Maybe I'll open a wedding venue, and put all in my equipment!! My future isnt dead!! I can run a pro band with this stuff. I have 100ft snakes, 32 channel mixers, monitors, 18in JBL prx400 speakers, Shure mics, pro lighting...I invested $12,000 last year and average $6,500 a year in the business.
13. I want all my dj friends to kill it in 2027!! There is no competition..Just speaker owners. We should do a dj convention!!
14. Tyler N. Parson is now a official dj!! And he will kill it!! Im happy I got him going!!
15. Let us see what my future brings. If 2026 is my last year..then it is. My surgeries are coming, so let's hope my body heals. Until then, my summer is booked!! Lets finish the year strong guys!! Go put those speaker owners to shame!!
