Jeannette Lloyd Theatre

Jeannette Lloyd Theatre For over 70 years, this venue has been home to countless student performances, community gatherings, and musical celebrations.

Serving as the cornerstone of Freeport School District's performing arts since 1954, the Jeannette Lloyd Theatre stands as a proud tribute to one of the district’s most influential directors, Jeannette Lloyd. Our five-show theatrical season showcases the depth and talent of our students and staff, ranging from full-scale musicals to intimate plays, supported by a robust calendar of concerts and sp

ecial events that highlight the diverse artistry within our schools. In 2020, the theatre underwent a comprehensive renovation modernizing audience seating, overhauling the house lighting system, and updating our stage rigging to industry standards ensuring that both performers and patrons enjoy a state-of-the-art experience while maintaining the charm and character of this historic space. Whether you're a long-time supporter or a first-time guest, we welcome you to visit the Jeannette Lloyd Theatre and experience the creative energy that continues to inspire generations.

What a great way to kick off the school year! 🥁🎺🧡🖤

Today, the FHS Marching Band helped open the district’s Opening Day festivities with energy, music, and plenty of Pretzel pride!

We are so thankful for these students who gave up their last morning before school starts to come out and help welcome back the staff of FSD 145. Their commitment, enthusiasm, and school spirit set the perfect tone for the year ahead.

Thank you, FHS Marching Band, for helping us start the school year on a high note! 🥨🎶

With the district's transition to having 5th graders attend their neighborhood elementary schools, our music staff has had a fun and rewarding year providing band and orchestra lessons across the district. 🎶

This year, approximately 125 students participated in beginning band and orchestra lessons, learning the fundamentals of their instruments and taking their first steps on what we hope will be a lifelong musical journey.

During the last week of school, we brought these budding musicians together for the first time at each building to give them an ensemble experience and a taste of what awaits them when they join the 6th grade bands and orchestras this fall. It was exciting to see the students come together, listen to one another, and experience the joy of making music as a group.

The Freeport music staff is thankful for the opportunity to provide this experience and is excited to watch these young musicians continue to grow in the years ahead. We can't wait to hear them perform as part of our middle school ensembles next year! 🎺🎻🧡🖤

Please note: We will be posting the band and orchestra videos separately, since Facebook doesn't allow us to post both videos at the same time. Be sure to watch for both performances! 🎶📹

Today we also want to highlight a teacher we are sad to see leaving Freeport after this school year. 💙🎶

After 7 years as the Jones-Farrar Choir Teacher, Ellen Prall will be moving out east with her family. During her time here, she built a strong and meaningful program, helping lay the musical foundation for so many of our youngest students.

As we all know, the future of music education starts with our littles, and Mrs. Prall has poured so much care, passion, and energy into helping students find confidence and joy through music.

While we are sad to see her go, we are incredibly grateful for everything she has done for Freeport Performing Arts and wish her and her family nothing but the best in their future endeavors.

And remember, Mrs. Prall… Once a Pretzel, always a Pretzel. 🧡🖤🥨

Today we want to highlight two new educators who are finishing up their first year in Freeport Performing Arts! 🎶🎭

Haley Hamilton has led our 6th Grade Band and FHS Concert Band, while also helping with 5th grade lessons, Marching Band, and Showtime’s Show Band. It has been an exciting first year for both her and the program, and we are excited for what’s ahead!

Ryan Jensen joined us this year as the FHS Choir Director, leading the Treble, Concert, and Varsity Choirs, while also directing Showtime 46. The choirs had a fantastic year, and Ryan did an outstanding job leading Showtime in his first season!

Freeport is proud to have these two as part of our Fine Arts family, and we can’t wait to watch their careers continue to grow both in the classroom and on the stage of the Jeannette Lloyd Theatre! 🧡🖤

Tonight the district celebrated this year’s retirees, and while we are excited for their next chapter, we are especially sad to see one of our longtime band directors, Bill Peterson, retire after more than 30 years in the district. 🎶

Over the years, Mr. Petersen has led the Symphonic Band and Jazz Band, helped guide the music department, and played a major role in creating many traditions that have become staples of the Freeport music community, including Moonlight Serenade, the World Arts Festival, and so many other memorable events and performances.

Thank you for your time, talent, leadership, and dedication to generations of students and musicians. Your impact on Freeport Fine Arts will be felt for years to come.

While we know we’ll still see you conducting on other stages, the Jeannette Lloyd Theatre stage will certainly miss you.

Congratulations on an incredible career, Mr. Petersen! 🧡🖤🎺

On Friday we had the joy of hosting Center Elementary School’s Spring Concert at the Jeannette Lloyd Theatre! 🌸🎶

We got to enjoy performances from students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, including some very brave individuals who stepped into the spotlight for solos and other special talents. It was wonderful seeing these students share their hard work and excitement with family and friends.

It was a great morning at the JLT, and we are proud to continue providing opportunities for our youngest performers to shine! 💙
